Why doesn't this work with Homekit?

I got the new MyQ for Xmas and I am disappointed that it doesn't come with Homekit unless I buy MyQ Home Bridge. I thought the new version released in OCT would have it. So you want me to spend $150+ to make it work?

Bad buy

Hi Chris, we created MyQ Home Bridge to connect Apple HomeKit to MyQ enabled garage door openers. The cost of the Home Bridge is currently $69.99, as seen here: http://bit.ly/2xQj655. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks, Chuck

For those of us who have a MyQ GDO in my case it's a Chamberlain WD1000W, the literature regarding the new MyQ Home Bridge is a bit vague.  I mistakenly believed that my Chamberlain WD1000W supported Apple HomeKit out of the box with no additional hardware needed.  Therefore I ignored all the flyers prompting me to buy the MyQ Home Bridge at the introductory price of $49 and to top it off I was NEVER notified that if I signed up on this forum and submitted a questionnaire that I would have gotten the MyQ Home Bridge for free.  It's infuriating that I have to pay full price but it's even more infuriating that I was led to believe that HomeKit would work with my GDO with no additional hardware.  And lets not forget that it was advertised that IFTTT would be free of monthly fees and now Chamberlain has decided to ignore that and now wants us to pay monthly subscription fees just so the GDO can communicate with and turn on my flood lights when I open the door.  This company disgusts me to no end.

Yes Chris not sure where you got the $150 price tag but I personally believe the version you got as a gift was probably old stock. Why not see if the person who gifted it to you has a receipt you might be able to exchange it for a newer one without homekit built in but that ultimately means the store has to have one of the newer unit I stock

That’s the whole unit you don’t need that unless you refund your existing one. to add HomeKit to the one you have you just need the bridge. It’s if I remember correctly $69. That on par with HomeKit brides other companies sell for

It's $99 on Amazon. Just clicked on your link. This is the "all-in-one" solution the included the garage opening  + closing and HomeKit.

Perhaps a Chamberlain rep can confirm if mode MYQ-G0301 does indeed include HomeKit support without the need for the bridge?

HomeKit integration for MyQ-enabled products can only be achieved with the use of the MyQ Home Bridge. The MyQ Smart Garage Hub (MYQ-G0301) does not have built-in HomeKit support. Let me know if there are more questions, Lauren

The bridge works well being using mine for about a month. Only annoying part is I have to have two things plugged into power now

I added a Wi-Fi access point with mesh to my garage to make sure the signal was as robust and fast as possible. The automation part via Apple is kind of annoying. I set it up do you have a geo-fence that would open the door when I got within range and close it when I left the range, but what actually happens is you get a push notification asking if you want to run automation you have to use your phone while on the road which is illegal in many areas of North America to acknowledge this on the bright side I have an Apple Watch and I can open and close my garage door with the simple Siri command which works quite well

Chris is your garage opener pretty old ? I have an old Craftsman > 2006 but I bought a new Chamberlain (still in the box) with a chain drive that includes the MyQ functionality. It think I paid it $130 @ HomeDepot. I plan to replace the garage opener when the weather get's warmer on the East coast :). But I am thrilled with the HomeKit Integration with the MyQ gateway... If you like HomeKit ... I also just installed a Honeywell Lyric. Very cool as well.

I have a 2 year old house. That might be better for me though. I need to think of the best option for pricing.

You state HomeKit is integrated with MyQ gateway. I’m not sure that’s true. I understand HomeKit works with HomeBridge. The gateway is a separate product which allows use of the MyQ app remotely. Not HomeKit. Semantics I know but it makes all the difference in the world. Am I wrong or is there confusion of product names.

Chris, Yes you are correct. Chamberlain was suppose to have released 2 HomeKit products. So far they have only release the HomeBridge. The Smart Garage Hub was suppose to be released back in July... https://www.chamberlain.com/chamberlain/media/Library/pdf/Chamberlain-Integrates-with-HomeKit.pdf

oh my. That screws me up a bit. I should be fine with my setup but I just got my mom the smart hub to control her doors (with the sensors). This will mess up her plan. Xmas is tomorrow here and it’s wrapped. Grr.

For the foreseeable future, the MyQ Home Bridge is the only product that integrates with HomeKit.

Unfortunately Michael, that was my understanding too until I installed the thing and started looking for the HomeKit pairing code. Chaimberlain should really remove any reference to HomeKit on the G301 marketing material. An Alexa skill would be nice though.

Can I ask a question?  I ordered the Home Bridge on January 1.  It will be delivered tomorrow via UPS.  I missed out on the first opportunity to get the Home Bridge at $49 now I see that it's on sale AGAIN using coupon code CES2018.  CAN I PLEASE BE REFUNDED $20?

the question of why chamberlain (and all other major garage door manufactures) do NOT support HOMEKIT integrated into their smart products (i.e. no bridge required) goes to apples push for required MFi chips into manufactures hardware(s).  I'm not against MFi (with the added layer of security that comes with it), however, apple went one direction while the entire smart device world went another .... so apple's playing catchup on this ...

with ios 10, apple removed the hardware requirement, yet still mandated the emulation of this via software ... most (if not all) smart device manufacturers don't support the minimum requirements to *software emulate* MFi functionality.

the industry solution was to *smart bridge* (a de-coupled, centralized, vendor specific piece of middleware) that performed/met apples MFi requirements ... potentially, this could require *bridges* for each non-MFI/homekit piece of hardware customers may have ... this solution (for me) is not convincing and just provides another point of failure.

solution:  wait.   wait until manufactures integrate homekit within each raw device (i.e.  no bridge required).

Because Apple previously had hardware requirements and companies put a ton of money into r&d amd developement to make and release a bridge which chamberlain does have mines HomeKit compatible

I can’t get the garage door added to the HomeKit and I tried with homebridge and it’s not add the garage door to the HomeKit so I control it there. But it works from the app as it’s connected perfectly to WiFi .

Do you have the HomeKit bridge? The door opener Ed themselves do not connect to HomeKit the bridge does

Yeah I don’t get the point in Alexa because that is the speaker in your home why do you need to open and close the door with your voice when you’re in your home? Especially since you can just use the myq app in your phone will be on you more than likely anyways. I do use HomeKit and I Geo fence so my garage door opens as I get close to my home and closes two minutes later
