Lance - I apologize that your door is opening on it's own. The symptom that you have described is called "Phantom Operation". There are a few things that can cause this type of problem. The most common causes are: possibly caused by a neighbor's remote being inadvertently programmed to your opener, a stuck button on a remote control, or a shorted wall-mounted door control sending unwanted signals to the garage door opener. I have included troubleshooting instructions below.

Why does my garage door opener activate on its own?

Dawn,

Not good enough.  Neighbors are not new or an issue.  Replaced batteries and decommissioned one of the two remotes.  Just went off at 7 pm to our surprise.  We just came back from a week-long vacation.  Have no idea if the door was open while we were gone.  I don't think I can ever, ever trust your equipment again. I want a full refund for equipment and installation.

Dawn,

I've unplugged the unit tonight  again to make sure the door doesn't open while we are sleeping.  Just want you to know, I have limited our egress from the house from three exits to two in case of a fire.  Why am risking my children's and my life because of your products malfunctions?

Lance - I am really sorry that that happened to you. If your door is opening on its own, it can be one of three things, someone else's remote is programmed into your opener, there is a short in the door control or there is an issue with the logic board. We need to troubleshoot the issue. It could be as easy as clearing the memory of your opener and reprogramming your remotes. If you would feel better troubleshooting with our technical support over the phone, the phone number is 1-800-528-9131.

I just had the same thing happend to me. It's late at night and my neighbors aren't close so it's not a neighbors remote. The main button has lost all signs of power while the lift machine and the sensors are still lit. Looks like a bad cotrol unit. It is only 10 months old!

I too have been experiencing "phantom operation" for many months now, after working flawlessly for over a year.  I have woken up in the morning to hundreds of alerts with my garage door opening and closing over and over throughout the night while my family was asleep.  This is a HUGE SECURITY RISK, and Chamberlain needs to figure out what is causing this issue since it appears to be widespread with MANY PEOPLE affected.  The only solution for me is to ENABLE THE REMOTE LOCK feature on the wall control panel.  This makes it so no remotes are unable to open the garage, but allowing it to still operate.  When enabled, the button on the control panel can still open and close the garage, as well as using the myq app, but it is a pain to have to use these methods instead of being able to click a remote.  This makes me think it is not an issue with the wall control panel, since when the lock is enabled, it will still open the garage.  It also doesn't appear to be an issue with MyQ, since I am still able to open and close the garage with the MyQ app, when lock is enabled.  Again, I don't experience phantom operation anytime lock is enabled.  I didn't pay all that money for a garage door opener, to have to use some ridiculous workaround, to ensure the safety of my family. I WILL NEVER BUY A CHAMBERLAIN/LIFT MASTER product ever again, and will make sure to tell as many friends, family members, coworkers, etc. about the problems with their products and why they shouldn't purchase them either.  Chamberlain/Lift master can't even admit to the issue, let alone resolve this major security threat.  As you can see, many people have already experienced theft and other problems associated with this "Phantom Operation" issue, and it completely defeats the purpose of owning a garage door opener if you are constantly worried that it will open on its own during all times of the day.    For Chamberlain/Liftmaster to try to blame these things on a neighbors remote accidentally being programmed to openers is laughable.  I assure that my neighbors aren't all night pushing their garage remote over and over hundreds and hundreds of times, and I am willing to bet that isn't happening with the thousands of people experiencing this issue.

Same issue here, Phantom Operation. I have a LiftMaster wall mounted unit, 3800 Series I believe. Roughly 3 years old and no issues until April 28th. This is the 3rd or 4th time this has happened now. One door randomly opens and then the unit goes offline with no power to the keypad indicated by the lack of any of the LED's being lit. It is not an issue with the electric as the second keypad is connected to the same power source. Pretty scary to expose my family to this security risk.

Here is a pic of the keypads too, both are connected to the same power source

I have had phantom openings after the opener was installed. After calling Chamberlain they suggested I reset my codes which I did. That did NOT help. Then they suggested my wiring between control unit and opener was shorted. Tested with meter and it's absolutely fine. Then Chamberlain sent me a brand new controller and issue cleared up for a year and now happening AGAIN. Door was open in middle of night and when we were on vacation. I have LOST all TRUST in this product as having my garage door randomly open is a HUGE security risk for my family. My garage opened by itself while I was looking out my window and no one was around to send any false signal from houses around me. My electrician friend rechecked wiringi and says product is buggy - he could not find any wiring issue. This product has serious flaws as my old unit worked for 15 years and NEVER had phantom openings.
