Whisper Drive HD900D issues (garage sometimes won't open)

Hello,

We have the Whisper Drive HD900D garage opener. We have had it since about 2009. In the last few years, we've been having this issue that happens rather often.... When I arrive home and I keep pressing the open button (whether it is in my 2013 BMW rear view mirror button or the actual 3-button remote control that came with the garage opener) and the garage won't open. Sometimes it takes about 10+ times for me to press it in order for it to finally open. The weird thing is, once it opens, it closes with one single press each time.... this same thing happens often on the outside keyless entry pad. What I have done so far....I've replaced batteries on the remote controls...I've done a full reset on everything....i've checked that alignment with that laser sensor.... I don't think it is any of that.... when I press the smart control panel inside our garage it works every single time with just one single click (like it is supposed to). Another thing I have noticed....when I put in the code in the outside keyless entry, and it doesn't open...it blinks....usually a faster blinking sequence ..... I have looked in the owner's manual but everything that describes the blinking part (on the keyless pad) is when it comes to programming. It seems to me as if the actual system is in like a deep sleep and when I try to open it, it takes a long time to come out of this sleep....and then it suddenly works just fine. To make it all even more confusing....when I leave in the morning and I press the smart control panel inside the garage to open it...then I drive out and press either the remote control or the button inside my car to close it....it suddenly won't close. Basically same thing...it takes like 10+ presses in order to close. This will kind of last about a few weeks or a month...then suddenly it works just fine....then back to this issue. I'm sorry about the novel I just don't know what to do with it. When it works it's great...nice and quiet....

DH, there are several possible explanations for why this would occur. Please review these troubleshooting tips and let me know if any solve your issue. https://goo.gl/8zYHZv  Chuck

This is great stuff! Thanks Chuck....one thing that stands out is the light bulbs...I did have to replace them long time ago and have two different types in there. I'll give that a try. Another thing is the part about the "short in door control". So I'll try that as well...I'll clear all codes and everything and see about even replacing the batteries on everything again and see what happens.

Recently had the same issue.  And it started when I changed out the curly Q CFL bulbs to LED.  Door would open but not close and had no range.  Changed back the LED's to CFL and problem is solved.  Thanks so much for this help guys!

Follow up. LED bulbs will work in the head unit but only those rated at 2700K. Daylight bulbs interfere with the RF. Go figure.

I haven't been able to figure out my issue.....still does it most of the time. It's not all the time but I'd say 80%. I bought all new LED bulbs that are garage opener safe....it's weird because once it opens I can open/close it back and forth without any issues. It's just after a while it does it again until it opens. Almost as if it goes into a deep sleep....
