I currently have a 201 hub, and would like to add another hub. I see that there’s a new model (301). What is the difference between the two?

Hi TechDoc,

MyQ Garage (201 hub) launched in 2013, and the Smart Garage Hub (301 hub) launched in September 2017.

The Smart Garage hub includes a few upgrades, including improved communication between the hub and garage door sensor, enhanced sensor battery monitoring, and automatic identification of available Wi-Fi signals for easier installation and setup.

Thank you for the info. Have the door sensors been upgraded?

Thanks again. Two more questions...

I have 3 doors/openers. The 2 doors we use the most are connected to an older model 201 hub with an older model sensor on each door. I recently added the MyQ bridge for HomeKit compatibility. It’s all working great.

I want to add the 3rd door, so I need to buy a new hub, since my 201 hub only connects to 2 doors. If I get the newer model hub (301) which comes with one sensor, I’d prefer to use it with the 2 main doors. However, it looks like the older sensors don’t work with the new 301 hub, so I’d need to buy a second sensor. But I don’t see them for sale.

1. Can I use any of my older sensors with a new 301 hub?

2. If not, how can I buy an extra sensor?

Thanks.

TechDoc,

1. Can you use older sensors with the new MyQ Smart Garage Hub -- no
2. Can you buy extra sensors for the new hub -- not yet

We're actively solving this. I will keep you posted. Lauren

Thanks again for the quick replies. Looks like I’ll have to wait for new sensors to become available separately before I add to my current setup.

Do I need to worry about my older hub and sensors not being supported in the app and with HomeKit in the future? I bought them a couple of months before the new hub and sensor were announced, so I’d hate to have invested in something that has been made obsolete in less than a year.

TechDoc, if I'm understanding your question correctly, there should be no concern that the New MyQ Home Bridge won't be supported by MyQ Garage. If I'm interpreting your question incorrectly, please let me know. Lauren
