MyQ App Will Not Accept My Serial Number

  • Doesn't Need an Answer
The Internet Gateway and MyQ-enabled garage door openers use different serial numbers. A user must have an Internet Gateway before adding a MyQ-enabled garage door opener to a MyQ account. The app will ask for a 10-digit serial number first. This number is the Internet Gateway serial number. Once an Internet Gateway is added, a MyQ-enabled garage door opener can be added to the account.

The fact that you need to purchase a proprietary wireless gateway device in order for the door to be controlled by my phone is (in my opinion) deceptive advertising and a bit of info that should be added to the instruction book. I wasted a good deal of time trying to figure out why the app wasn't accepting the door opener's serial number. Your instruction book, website, and app neglect to mention that I need a gateway as an intermediary between phone and door .

I agree. My husband and I spent couple hours trying to figure out what's wrong with the serial number. I even called their tech support and received this voice mail saying that they are encounter unusual high volume of phone calls. Waited for 20min, pressed #1 to have them call back. Unfortunately that ddin't do anything. I just hang up, very frustrated

I found out that the device has to be plugged in and ethernet wire connected to it and only after that the Serial Number can be entered on the website.

Sorry folks, but when I purchased the garage door opener it was obvious from what I read at the time that I needed the gateway.  I bought them together.  Not sure what happened in your case but I'm pretty pleased with the opener and the app interface.  Was not hard at all to get going and no issues with operation.

<edit>
I see this was a few years old.  May have been addressed...

This is completely unacceptable! I have been trying to connect my garage opener for an hour. After a little research I too took the pole on false advertising . Not fair

I have asked for a refund for the difference between this and the lesser product. I live in a large neighborhood and know most of my neighbors, this will come up a few times. I also write product reviews on many websites, again, this will be a part of them now.

Ed this only works with the newer wifi garage door openers. For us with the older ones. Without the wifi label on the opener. The gateway is needed. The problem is the gateways are faulty aswell. The newer opener is the way to go.

I solved my issue and thought I should post it here. The instructions online and in the app are not good at all!
If your garage door is MyQ ready and you are just installing the Internet Gateway you will only enter your S/N 1 time. On the page where it asks if your opener has WIFI click on NO! Once I said no, the process was continued and it's working now.

Hope this helps.

Allen,

Thank you for pointing that out. That question was added to our app with the addition of our new Wi-Fi garage door openers.

Yeah it's a bit confusing for sure. There's no mention of that page in the opener manual or the gateway guide.

I'm crazy pissed!! I purchased this POS after reading the advertising and boxes with the reps at a Home Depot store. I was told I would need "a" gateway. I could purchase the MyQ gateway , a "Wink" gateway, or a "Homelink" gateway. Since they don't sell any of the other MyQ components, I chose the Wink gateway... STILL doesn't work without the MyQ gateway! So, my garage door opener links to the MyQ gateway, which links to the Wink gateway, which links to my router. sounds like i'm gonna need rubber elbows to get to my a$$

I just bought the Chamberlain MyQ WD962KEV garage door opener and nowhere on the box does it say that I need to purchase other equipment to have this work with my phone. Had I known this I would have bought the HD950WF model which has built in WIFI. I would like to exchange my current opener for this one. Please let me know what can be done about this. Its false advertising. Why should i spent $268 for my current opener that I bought at Lowes and now have to spend another $60 to make it work with my phone. This does not make any sense. Please let me know what can be done about this.

I purchased the garage door opener as well, thinking all the technology was in the box, it clearly stated MyQ Technology allows you to connect and manage the garage door...NOWHERE does it say AFTER you buy another gateway. There were various Chamberlain openers for sale at Home Depot and I specifically bought the one with Internet access. This is complete false advertising, and something should be done about this. I would not of purchased this model had I known the technology had to be purchased separately! Calling the Better Business Bureau and starting a claim! So pissed!!!! Chamberlain should be ashamed of themselves!

Is this still an issue? I purchased a home with the system already installed and was sold on the fact that I could use the app for convenience. However, when I attempt to register, it asks for the s/n that is apparently on the Gateway that was not left with the door openers and keys - if there ever was a Gateway.

We purchased Model #HD950WF and we did not need the gateway in order to use the app. I did have to call customer service as it would not accept the serial number on the app. It took about 5 minutes for them to explain how to connect to our wifi and the app.

This is totally unacceptable. They only reason I bought this is because of myQ. I could have put a sticker on that said myQ on the basic model myself and still saved money. The others specifically state upgradeable to myQ in bold lettering. Why not do the same on this one?

I just installed the Chamberlain MYQ-G0201and discovered that this unit will not work on a 5GHz spectrum. You need to enable the 2.4GHz spectrum on your router and from your mobile device, connect to the 2.4GHz in order for the hub to access the internet and accept the serial number. Once that was done, I was on my way to connect my 2 door sensors. The link below is the unit I have. Hope this helps.

I agree completely, this is blatant false advertising! No care has been given as this post is 3 years old and I just bought mine in May/2017 and the box still has no mention of purchasing this extra equipment. I too spent an hour working on this because the instructions do not mention this either. I won't return it now, it's already installed, but all I can do is tell everyone how terrible a company this is. I don't care its extra cost, just say that, at least in the manual tell us we need this extra purchase/step. How is there not a lawsuit for this?

I just purchased and installed the LW9000WF. Like most here I was frustrated by the instructions because they didn't work using my phone. So I gave it a shot with my laptop. I pushed the button on the motorhead 3 times to enable the GDO built-in wifi, then connected to the Myq network with my laptop.
As soon as it connected Chrome opened up to the setup page, asking to select the home wifi name and enter the wifi password. From there it went quickly. Then the next time I opened the app on the phone, it saw the garage door opener right away.
Chamberlain/Liftmaster should mention the laptop/PC option vs trying to use the mobile device/phone which doesn't work very well, it seems, most of the time.

In Android, you will get "Server not connected" error once after you heard "Three beep sound" and entering myq serial no. in the hub. I used iPhone to link garage with wifi router first and then it came automatically in android. Probably, android app has some bug.
