MyQ won't program and it won't monitor

I've installed a MyQ Garage, and set it up. I've followed all of the instructions, but I still only get the option to monitor the garage door - and it doesn't even detect if the door is open or closed. So even in that mode, it's not doing a single thing. Very frequently, the app will tell me it doesn't even know the status of the garage door at all.

While attempting to program it using the app, the garage door opens and closes every time I try to program it. After each attempt opens and closes the garage door, I get a message that asks to try again or use monitoring only.

I'm not sure what the issue is, but it just doesn't see that the door is actually opening and closing.

In monitoring mode, it always says the garage is closed. I've moved the door sensor and the wifi hub around 15-16 times, rotated both the hub and the sensor, and even attempted installing the door sensor upside-down. None of that has worked. The sensor lights up when tested, and the hub beeps. Factory reset hub about 10 times.

When I test the door sensor using the button, the wifi hub beeps, so I know it is at least able to see the wifi hub.

My wireless router is well within range, and my router also says that the wifi hub is connected. The wifi hub indicates it is connected to my wifi as well with its indicator light.

My garage door is a Liftmaster 1245lm manufactured in 1994 with a green "learn" button.

Thanks jessewm for reaching out to our community website. The MyQ Garage may be required to be moved further away from the opener. We recommend 1-2 feet away on the ceiling and rotate the MyQ Garage 180 degrees, preferably away from the garage door when in the fully open position as well. Please let us know if this helps with the monitor only situation.

Please do not rotate or move the door sensor from the top panel of the garage door. The issue should be resolved without needing to do anything with the door sensor. Thanks!

I have this same issue. I ordered a new hub and moved the old hub to a new place. I removed and reset the old hub and under into this while configuring the new place. I've moved the hub 5+ feet from the opener. The door opens and closes during programming, then gives me only the option to try again or monitor only. Frustrating!

I got it working. The door sensor wasn't pairing for some reason. The yellow light would come on, but the hub would not beeb. I pressed the button extra hard in frustration and it beeped and now works. Hopefully the sensor doesn't continue flaking out.

Lauren, we are having very similar issues as Jason. We've had ours for exactly a year & it has worked very well until last week. We began getting closing errors so we replaced the battery in the sensor thinking it might be the problem. We've tried several times on 2 different smartphones but it fails every time. It goes through all the prompts, opens & closes the door but then fails. One difference for us is we never get a prompt concerning the sensor. Any ideas how to fix this?

Thank you for your quick response! We figured out the door sensor needed to be paired with the hub after changing the battery. It works perfectly now!

I have the same problem, but mine won’t even open and close once. Just monitor only.

Same issue with a 3 year old Chamberlain door opener (purple button).  The original hub worked and since it stopped i decided to buy a new one however its giving me the same exact issue even though it does open and close the door during the learning.

I'm having the same issue with Genie Pro 1024. Hub is more than 5 ft away, door sensor is pairing, garage door is opening and closing, then fails after step 4. It worked for more than a year but I think it stopped working when after I replaced ASUS with Netgear Nighthawk router and even when I switched router back to ASUS.
