MyQ skill for Amazon Alexa

Any idea when this integration will be built?  I've seen some unsupported solutions using IFTTT and some open source hubs, but it sure seems like something you could and should do.

When I installed my new Chamberlain garage door about 4 or 5 months ago Alexa controlled it perfectly.  Then all of a sudden, it no longer did and was no longer listed on Alexa as a skill.  Was I dreaming or did Chamberlain pull the skill?

Lester, sorry you weren't aware that Alexa support was not available at this time. If you need assistance with a return, let me know. Lauren

Do it Lester. Get your money back. I wish I had. They have been promising something for months and not delivered (probably trying to figure out how to make money off it). They hide behind the excuse of security when we all know that one simple user agreement statement would remove all liability.  At one point there was a third party app that would do it and they squashed it. Claiming not to know anything about it but the developer tells a different story.

Sounds like everyone is upset like me! So I did something about it!

Watch the below - hope this helps! I never use the MyQ app anymore :) Please vote on the video so I know if it helps you all! Best of all my integration is simple, quick, extremely inexpensive and best of all directly integrated with Google Assistant / Alexa without the use of IFTTT! No latency!

I got rid of my MyQ and bought the Amarr Entrematic 860. You can open and close with Alexa, has geofencing so it automatically opens and closes as you come and go. Wifi connected and app. I love it!

I were able to integrated Chamberlain with Alexa by I installed the SimpleCommands app on my iPhone 6S
-Create the Routine add "Garage Door Opener(myQ) to this Routine "Open my garage".

-Create the Routine in Alexa app and select "Smart Home" then select "Control scene" then "Open my garage". and then click "ADD" then click save

I would purchase two Chamberlain belt drive openers today if they offered integrated Alexa support.  Otherwise, no Chamberlain products for me.

Thanks for the additional, very helpful insight.

My reaction to Chamberlain's marketing approach is the same as it would be if Amazon announced that Alexa would charge you 10 cents every time you spoke to her.

The idea of paying an annuity to use a garage door opener is a total non-starter.  I will look elsewhere.

Bumping this thread... seems like Chamberlain is not going to give a timeline for this happening and particularly not for free. Anyone have luck using Smart Things and then controlling it via Alexa... it says SmartThings its "supported". Are people just not wanting the latency of the intermediary?

Chamberlain told me it no longer supports Smartthings. Really sucks! Terrible customer service

Everything seems to be pointing to this product:  Amarr Entrematic 860

Any feedback from other users?

Would love to have JUST the ability query the state of the door and be able to close it if it is still open via voice.  I DO NOT want the ability to Open the door via voice command.  Alexa should not be able (by default) to disable security to your house unless there is a override switch with an acceptable risk disclaimer.  BUT Keep it free!  Free notifications, free integrations, free updates, etc.  The Freebees are what drives sales of/to the product.

It appears that a large number of users are requesting Alexa ability. My rainbird sprinkler controller has Alexa. My levinton WiFi switches work with Alexa, my nest works with Alexa and so on. They also work with Google for free.. My Chamberlain garage door opener does not.

Cut them a break ... it takes time to re-invent something that's already available with everyone else ... and figure a way to charge you a fee for it!

Just saying ...

I am very surprised that there is no MyQ integration with Alexa.  Almost every other smart home device manufacturer out there has an Alexa skill, but Liftmaster/Chamberlain doesn't seem to.  And while there is IFTTT & Google Home integration, but I'm dismayed that I need to pay a subscription fee to simply be able to use my connected opener with my smart home devices.  Especially given this fee, it's unacceptable that there is no Alexa integration.

While there are companies that charge fees for services, such as cameras utilizing cloud recording and AI resources, no other major smart home device charges such a subscription fee for simply using the connected capabilities to turn a device on or off or open or close a door!  An Alexa skill doesn't require significant cloud storage or resources to open or close my garage door.

I feel this is actively user hostile, and makes me regret choosing MyQ as the connected system for my garage door.  I've already paid a couple hundred dollars for my opener, I do not want to pay another monthly or yearly fee to simply use the device I already bought.

Chamberlain/LiftMaster, please seriously consider abandoning this subscription charge and just allowing users to use their devices!  The price of an opener could easily be raised a couple dollars to cover the cost of app development and servers rather than penalizing owners with additional fees that were not disclosed when they purchased their products.  Judging by these support forums, there are many other customers who also feel this way, and I think the company is only alienating customers by following this subscription model.

It costs $10 per year or something “per connection” and when I checked it only connected to IFTTT but even there it doesnt have an auto open when near function (because Chamberlain wont allow it).

Billy............ It is pure Greed. We pay a shit load of money on our Garage door openers, Switches and  any other thing from them. They have the capability in fact i had a Alexa skill working to open my Garage and all lights and they killed it from working. forced me to have to either change all my light switches to Alexa/ Apple homekit ones that do both or pay the $1 per month to use IFTTT integration for Alexa and it does work why. piss of so many for $1 a month. And not even allow the ability to open the Garage even with a pin code that is very easy to implement.

It's the principle which they don't seem to get.  We've pointed it out here numerous times and people are jumping ship because of that fact alone.  Why pay a subscription fee when you've already had to shell out for the compatible opener and then ANOTHER piece that's extra to control it?  I initially bought my garage door opener because it said "MyQ" assuming there were no additional parts.  Bit the bullet and got the gateway (off ebay for $30) because I felt it was my fault for not reading up ahead of time.  Now another $1 a month?  Just shady greedy add on tactics.  Going to rip/replace it all with a better, more ethical companies solution.

One of Chamberlain's large sales channels is through garage door service and install companies. Many rely on these reseller service companies when replacing their systems if they are not DIY types. Make a point to tell these installers you have locally that you don't want Chamberlain products because they just aren't keeping up with innovations in technology (and actively blocking it in this case). If these resellers and intermediaries stop buying and promoting Chamberlain it will get their attention much faster than if we each as individuals stop buying Chamberlain.

It all goes to deaf ears they don't care they are so big and if there reply usually with generic answer like "We are working on it." they have our money and not like it is a light switch were some will just change quickly if pissed off.

Chamberlain sneakily set my solution to "private" so none of you could see it. It's on my website now. Have at it.

Dylan, any chance you can make this skill available to Craftsman branded MyQ openers? It's made by Chamberlain but the serial number of the gateway won't register on the Chamberlain site since it is an OEM product. Thanks!

Chamberlain, when are you going to get this working for Alexa? You are losing customers!
