MyQ skill for Amazon Alexa

Any idea when this integration will be built?  I've seen some unsupported solutions using IFTTT and some open source hubs, but it sure seems like something you could and should do.

This seems more to do with Chamberlin, than the functionality that alexa or IFTTT brings. I had made a suggestion to allow, at least, door closure, and status checks. I can understand door opening being an issue. They lump this under a security issue

My high school child could figure this out. Really? Get off your lazy asses and give the consumer what they want. My Schlage front door opens with Alexa. Why can't my garage door?

Really... your schlage door lock can 'open/unlock' with Alexa?!? I can't do that with mine... just lock it and check it its status. Schlage and Amazon said it was a security issue to allow unlock remotely.

Yeah, with August auto lock and unlock feature is built in to the actual August product.  Would be nice if it was available here....

@James .. The Alexa interface to SmartThings for the Schlage Connect lock has had an update.  It can now be configured to unlock the door if you enable this feature (by default it is disabled.)  As a security precaution, you have to speak your security code for the lock when Alexa prompts you for the security code.

If Alexa is within “ear shot” (microphone listening distance) of someone outside your home, all they’d have to do is say (loud enough for Alexa to hear) is, “Alexa open garage door” (or whatever the phrase is), and voila - they are in! I don’t suppose you still place a spare key to the front door under the “welcome mat”, do you?

All the other brand's voice control lock devices now use a spoken pin to unlock. Industry standard safe guard implemented in the last year.

In my front door, I have the August Pro (https://august.com). Full integration with Alexa, and when you say "Alexa, Open Front Door", it prompts for a spoken pin. In my opinion, Chamberlain has no excuse for not integrating Alexa or Google. In fact, there were third party skills for Alexa and they managed to have them taken down. Very disappointing.

JP..... As mentioned in this thread by some one else i picked up on i have Check it out and now using it. A APP called "Simplecommands" it Can be found in the Applestore or Andriod store it is Pretty amazing. Once registered to it for """"FREE""""" it allows you to link with your  MYQ Account and pulls in all info to App. then it it hooks up with Alexa a Skill i will not say name so it doesn't get pulled down but they say in the App. Now With no extra equipment and nothing paid for services All my light switches and plugs and garage door that i have with MYQ all work with Alexa. Opening and closing Garage does require to create inside App a thing called "Routine". Then those routines are sent to "Amazon Alexa" app and you can set commands what ever you want to say like "Alexa Open Garage door"  and link that routine you created to open and one to close. ALL THIS IS FREE AND WORKS GREAT>>>>
You must be using the official MyQ app and be registered.
NOW THIS IS AWESOME WORKING EVERYONE ENJOY
CAN also Register and do somethings from the Web site.https://www.simplecommands.com

Andy,

I did create the routines and Alexa found them and added them under "scenes".

But, in order to lunch it I have to say "Alexa, run Open Garage Door". If I don't specify the word "run" then it replies "I don't know how to do that".

Have you run into this?

Thanks.

Nope I just created the routines one for open garage and one for close and in the Amazon Alexa app. I discover and it pulls them up as scenes. I then created a routine on Amazon Alexa app saying anything I want like”open the garage door” then pick the open. And another for close. All works fine.
You need to use run word if you don’t create a Amazon Routine. See my pic. Even have Alexa talk a phrase after it opens.

This works great for a simple command.  I noticed in the Google Play Store that one of the reviewers commented about how he had added a PIN number for security purposes.  Unfortunately, there is no way in the Play Store to message a commenter.  So, can anyone enlighten me on how to add a security code for this action?  I would like it to be similar to how Alexa prompts me for a PIN number when asked to unlock my Schlage locks.

I bought mine less than a month ago and was disappointed to find that you can't control it with Alexa. I have been searching for a solution, found one and then it suddenly was pulled from the Skill on Amazon. I was hoping to avoid it but this thing is coming down and going back to the store. This is a deal breaker.

Me too! I purchased an Echo less than 2 weeks ago. I've been using the Myq android app successfully for several years. My FIRST skill I downloaded within the Alexa app was the Myq app. It asked for Myq account info. Within a few minutes, it was linked to Alexa. It worked great. (Alexa, open the garage door). I was showing everyone how it controlled the garage door. Well, last night I asked Alexa to open the garage door and it responded it didn't understand. I went into the the Alexaapp app and the skill was not there. I k ow I'm not crazy. The skill was available now it's not. I called chamberlain tech support and they spout the company line "we don't support the Alexa". The skill I used "looked factory", not a third party. Since I'm a noobie to Alexa I would not have even known to search for a third part skill. Anyone else experienced this issue?

Hi Robert and Ben,

We're sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment.

We know there’s a lot of interest in new platforms and devices, and while I'm unable to reveal future product strategies, know that we’re actively working on the next versions of our MyQ-enabled products and will have some exciting announcements in the coming months.

MyQ people are too lazy to create a simple Skill they would rather charge you for over priced hard ware to do same thing. I use Alexa but also use apple Homekit after promising almost all of 2017 Hub finally came out on limited $49 and $16 shipping and ground i paid LOL!! i will have siri integration of my Liftmater Garage and lights.

Michael don't believe them this has been going on forever. Take them back and get another brand. There was a 3rd skill that worked at one point but it mysteriously disappeared and they claim no knowledge of it. They are trying to figure a way to milk more money eye out of people. It has nothing. To do with security. A simple disclaimer relieves them of all responsibility.

No Lauren, the app was already created, I tested it for months Thomas had created. All you guys would have to do was validate and run through possibly legal. Maybe have us consumers sign documentation to absolve you from any legal action. So please repeating the same old scripted message it's really becoming tiresome!!!-

Although I fully appreciate the skill and generosity of those who have developed workarounds to add Alexa support to Chamberlain openers, any such solutions are very fragile and subject to changes in the underlying products.

For this reason, I have crossed Chamberlain off my list of candidates for replacement garage door openers.  Before I would buy a Chamberlain, it would need to have fully integrated, fully supported Alexa capabilities.

Looking at Amazon and Chamberlain, there is more than a hint of irony.

Amazon has become a fantastic success by focusing on the Customer Experience.

Chamberlain, on the other hand, seems content to dispense anodyne banalities but no solutions.  Considering the vast range of smart devices which work with Alexa, the lack of a supported Alexa/Chamberlain interface seems to be a product of either incompetence or indifference.  Or both.

I have a working solution to integrate your Alexa and a MyQ enabled garage door.
I currently have it working on my house and can issue verbal commands throught Alexa to open and close the door.

I have the files compiled and you will have to do some leg work by editing the files with your login name and password that you use for either liftmaster or myQ. It doesn't matter which site you use as the backend works for both.

You have to create a developer account on AWS (Amazon Web Services), which is free, and you have to create an Alexa Skill with the Alexa Skill Kit (ASK) and load the edited files into a Lambda function you will create.

Once all that is done your skill is automaticall enabled in Alexa and you can issue commands like,"Alexa ask the garage to close"

If you have any doubts or just don't want to or can't create the skill yourself I can do it for you if you really want the MyQ or Liftmaster integration with Alexa.

Just email me at DigitalKonceptz@iCloud.com

From previous interactions with Chamberlain, they are a greedy company, and try to nickel and dime you for every little thing. I'm sure they are going to want to ---- the customer for a subscription charge of some sort. It's best to buy an opener from another manufacturer.

Lauren, You wrote that post 11 months ago. It’s vague and didn’t give anyone any reassurance. Are we asking about a wide variety of third party apps? Nope. We are all asking about Alexa. Are you going to make this happen or not? It’s a simple yes or no. I’m sitting here with boxes of chamberlain “smart” garage door products my husband purchased for me as a surprise. Looks like the only surprise is that we are returning all of it. I’m not willing to dumb down my smart home. Give me a reason to keep these products.

I had this working a few months ago using a work-around someone suggest...for about a week.  Then there was an upgrade that killed it.  This is Chamberlain not wanting this to happen at all.  I will switch companies next time I shop for an opener. After all...it just opens a door.

Chamberlain is far too busy trolling cyberspace trying to block, erase, or shut down free work-arounds to actually focus on customer service. Chamberlain does not have the right to require a post-purchase monthly fee from owners of hardware purchased from Chamberlain ,and hopefully enough consumers will file suit in small claims court to make Chamberlain reevaluate the bottom line profitability of this shockingly unethical policy. Meanwhile, don't hold your breath waiting for integration. Intellectual property laws are likely the cause of the reluctance, as Chamberlain undoubtedly knows. They cannot charge you a monthly fee to open and close your garage using the remote that came with the garage opener you bought, and their attempt to do so to use home automation you bought is no different.

Contact your State Attorney General, your local Better Business Bureau, and any other consumer protection organization available to you to complain about this infringement on full use of your property. Hopefully enough noise will remedy the problem.

So...  Here's what I've done!

Got the Z-Wave (momentary contact switch): https://www.amazon.com/GoControl-Linear-GD00Z-4-Z-Wave-Controller/dp/B00M75TEIU

Soldered two wires to the MyQ keypad, to a mono-jack (in the upper-left corner of the case).

From THAT, I plug in a mono-plug connected to the aforementioned Z-Wave controller.

Voila - Z-Wave/Alexa control of my garage door!

SCREW YOU, Chamberlain!
