MyQ Premium IFTTT Missing basic functionality

I have begrudgingly signed up for the Premium MyQ account with IFTTT.  After linking the app, the basic functions of MyQ are:
  • Close garage door
  • Report when garage door is close
  • Report when garage door is open

The rest of the MyQ applets are derivatives off of those 3 basic functions.

One very major item that is missing is opening the garage door. I would also like to query the garage door to see if it is open or close.

How is it possible that this very basic function of opening the garage door is missing?  I already do not like paying extra per year for a product that i already purchased.

If i am going to be forced to pay, and you are going to try and justify this monthly fee, then you had better make sure you include phenomenal support and PLENTY of options.

I suspect that the 'open garage door' function was not included because of security reasons. But agree about the query option and perhaps adding a pin number to an open garage door function. Also, I would like to see functionality for other myQ devices (light switches, power outlets, etc).

You're correct - you can open the garage door via Siri or the Home app; HomeKit your garage will open after you provide your passcode, which adds an extra layer of security.

Unplug the cable from your router and then modem for 30 seconds and then plug the cables into them.

Hi Gideon,

Thanks for reaching out.  Chamberlain and LiftMaster do not allow Applets that trigger the garage door to open as a result of a condition/action for security purposes. However, users can open the garage door through the MyQ app, which would trigger their Applet and trigger other events to happen.

Best,
Chuck

This is silly!!!! That's the whole point of home automation. If I first need to enter a security code then it's not automation anymore. All companies that make controllable door locks also allow you to unlock a door through automation. It should be possible to open the garage door with geofencing so when you come home the garage door automatically opens. Or let's say you exercise in your garage and you want the garage door open for good circulation you can just hit the exercise button and it opens the garage door, turns on the TV, dims the light depending on the time of day, turns on a fan, etc.

Pm, you make good points on the value of such automations. I'm passing these insights along to our development team. Lauren

I am planning on cancelling my subscription.  At least you guys put in 1 month free trial.

i cannot imagine a single customer who is going to be satisfied with the level of IFTTT integration  that only allow you to close but not OPEN the garage door.  It seems silly for any customer to try and justify spending any money on a half baked implementation.

You might view it as a security hazard, but i think customers are well aware of this when they sign up for any type of home automation and this is the sort of trade-off we have made already.  As far as i am aware, other companies who have IOT door locks don't seem to have any issue with this.

I hope you cancelled your subscription!! Pretty much every other company would offer this service for free. Wait, there is more, they would also allow you to open the garage door and more...!!!!

I keep my subscription half an hour!  The main purpose was to ask to google to open the garage door while I have hands full of stuff to put in the outside garbage bin.

Ah, welcome to the super secure Chamberlain solution. It's so secure because it can't even do the basic stuff.... Oh, wait a second, it can close the garage door. But that could squash somebody/something. I hope they don't read this otherwise they will not just disable the open but also the close feature. What a great, secure solution. You can neither close nor open the garage door...

Ben, for security reasons, we are not permitting Google Home voice-controlled opening of the garage door. Other voice-controlled options are available on the Google Home integration. Lauren

I can't even get the "close door" action to work in IFTTT now.  When I try to use MyQ as a THAT action, all that shows is "Options Unavailable".  Yes, I have verified that my MyQ authentication is up to date.  I can see my garage door as an IF trigger.

I never got a response regarding IFTTT integration.  MyQ only works in IF statements; not THEN.

Joel, I'm sorry your issue is not yet resolved. I've asked a customer support agent to reach out to you again. To confirm, the email associated with your MyQ account is still good? Lauren

I was never contacted by customer support regarding my inability to use IFTTT so I dropped my $1 / month account.  I'm reduced to using the iPhone app.  I'll be moving on to Linear GoControl.

I also would like to control a MyQ light switch with IFTTT. For what I want to accomplish, I would need to be able to have IFTTT turn the light switch on or off, and would also like to be able to query the status of multiple garage door openers, but it appears that the IFTTT integration doesn't allow that. Disappointing.

I’m thinking that it’s being worked on, but with the charging $ that’s going on with the limited iftt integration that there is. My prediction is that they will eventually offer it but will basically hold you ransom for functionality, it’s the only thing that makes sense otherwise it would have been announced. The scary thing about paying for integration is that the price could go up and bullshot usually ensues. I am personally very warned about this product.

just spend the $6-9 on the 1ch wifi switch, I posted the video a while back.

you'll have full control of open/close by voice.
