My MyQGarage will no longer close the Garage door. This worked fine before, but just noticed today that the Door is not being closed. It works fine when I open it via my Android App and via the MyChamberlain Website.
When I try to close it via the Android App (Same results with the iPhone App and MyChamberlain Site), the unit beeps for several seconds... and the App waits, then I get a 'Garage is not responding. Please try again later.'
So far, I have reset the MyQGarage using the Gear button and deleted it from my Profile. When I went through the process of re-adding it, and setup the Sensor again, it was able to open and close my door without any problems. But once done, it was able to open the door, but still will not close it.
The door closes fine using the regular remote door opener that came with the Garage Door Opener.
How can this be fixed?
Thank you for your help.
I'm sorry to hear you are having a problem with your door closing. In some instances when the hub had been installed too close to the motor unit, interference may occur.
the hub and move it away at least 2 feet from the motorhead. Test to see if the
door will open and close. If this takes care of the issue, the hub will need to
be installed further away from the motor unit. If the hub is already 2 feet away try turning it 180 degrees and testing the door from the app.
How to delete a device from the MyQ Garage (Wi-Fi Hub) or Internet Gateway
How to add devices to a MyQ Account
Yesterday, I went to test this, and tried to open my Garage Door with the App, and the door did not open. After a minute of waiting, I decided to use the Garage Door Opener Remote to open the Door.
Afterwards, I tried using the App to close the door, and the door closed, no problems. Then I opened it with the App, no problems.
I continued testing today, and the door is opening and closing without any problems with the App.
I'm not sure if this should be considered a closed case.. is there anyway to try to determine what might've happened? This was going on for a while, and now it's suddenly working fine again.
While it's working fine now, makes me wonder if something like this may end up happening again in the future.
We'll see :)
I just Installed MyQ System to open garage door with my android phone. I followed the instructions, created an account, add device and all... It works fine to open the door, but when I try to close the door with my computer or smartphone, it just does not work (light turns on to show something happens but nothing else).
To close the door I must use remote control. Then the software can show status of door closed... It means it is not a communication problem.
Anyone can help me ?
Here's what i did to resolve this evening.. There may be a more optimal way but at least i found a combination that works; we'll see if it stays....
1. Press and release the program button on my garage door
2. Try opening garage with the phone app
3. On my garage door, i heard a click and the light went off, got an error on my app
4. I press the hard wired garage door opener to open the garage
5. Close garage with app
6. Should work now (tested opening/closing garage 6 times in a row)
(if this didn't work, then try repeating process but on step 5, close door with hard wired garage opener.)
...come to think of it, i wonder if the "pressing the program button" steps are even necessary or if you could just open and close your door with the hard wired garage door opener and it work. If it screws up again i'll test further and update this post.
This problem has also been a continuous problem for me. The App will open the Garage Door every time, and will close the door <50% of the time. I have resorted to putting the wireless remotes back into the cars because I can not depend on the app to close the door. It seems like another engineering over design issue. Closing the garage door and hitting an obstacle has already been addressed by the laser deteor and door blockage sensor on the opener so I don’t know what the point is to add the extra safety measures.
my situation, the MyQ is located ~5 feet from the garage door opener,
the App will open the door 100% of the time. When closing it, the
MyQ will flash the light for ~30 seconds then it quits flashing. The
MyQ will continue to beep for ~30 seconds then stop doing anything.
At this point, if you try to close it again it will report that the
opener is not responding, try again later.
this point, you can use the wireless remote or the wired button to
close the door. I know the MyQ recognizes this because it sends me a
notification that the door is closed. Then you can press the open in
the App and the door will open followed by a notification that the
garage door is open. This confirms that the door sensor is working,
it knows when the door is closed or open. At this point if you try
and close the door with the app, it is a crap shot if it will
actually close it or not. Sometimes (<50% of the time) it will
not close and instead will fail and tell you to try later. Then
sometimes it will close. So in the end, this is a great device if
all you want to do is open your garage door, if you want to close it,
you need a remote opener or to use the wired button.
have read on various web-sites that the problem is that MyQ attempts
to add ‘smarts’ to keep the door from closing. It appears these
smarts aren’t so smart. I have went to my web-page to see if there
was some setup or someway to disable the door-close feature but so
far I’ve not been able to. What I get on the web-page is:
This was such a great device a year and a half ago when i bought it. It worked everytime. I was even able to add it to smart things where it would automatically open and close when I arrived and left. Then the smart things compatibility was taken away, now it doesn't even work as advertised.
I guess it's time to pull it down and look into another more dependable brand.
I removed the device from app and added again. Factory reset the device. Moved it to different locations. None of these helped. Still opens successfully everytime and doesn't close the door any time.
I have same problem since beginning.
I think it comes from the fact that engine had been once forcing to much on door not closing (when making bad tests after installation).
it is a kind of security that happen once the engine would have force too much, it will never close anymore with software, but still works with remote control or push button.
I read somewhere there is possibility to make a hard reset of the engine to make him forget he had hard time and restart again in factory mode.
But nobody so far was able to help me to do this engine hard reset...
It does not come from mother board which was changed, it does not come from IR beam which was changed and correctly installed, in perfect line...
Clearly there is a problem with the product. From my research it has to do with a convoluted closing algorithm where the safety checks always fail. The light flashes and beeps like it is supposed to but then it never closes so it is obvious that some safety check in the firmware is failing. What is interesting is that any such check is even necessary given the other safety measures already in place with garage doors (light sensor and back pressure sensor). It would appear that added checks in this unit is just another case of over engineering.
In the end, the unit is good for reporting the door state (open/close) and opening but you always have to close it using the wall button or original remote which kind of defeats its purpose. If I hadn’t received it as a gift I would have returned it months ago.
I already had an email communication with MyQ customer service and performed everything they asked me to do and nothing helped.
I'm wondering if anyone in here has been able to resolve the problem. It clearly shows something is wrong with the device itself and it's not a communication problem since the door opens without a problem every time.
