MyQ Garage Door Controller will not connect to my Overhead door GD opener

My Garage Door opener is an "Overhead Door" brand, Phython model OCG550, Gen. II. The MyQ is conneted to the internet, green light on unit. WiFi signal is very strong as I have COX Panoramic WiFi with 2.4 or 6 GhZ signal. I have choose the 2.4 Signal network for the MyQ hub. System is working great as a door monitor, but will not connect to my Garage door opener. I have made a dozen attempts, following the directions on the app. to the letter. The myq website for compatible GD openers has the Overhead Door model OCG550L listed, again mine is an OCG550. I have spoke with an Overhead door rep. who says he is not familiar with the model no. ending I an "L", so I am not sure where MyQ derived that model no.

What color is the programming button on your python? Does the app ask you what color your button is? If so, When attempting to setup your gdo in the app you may trying selecting a different color button than what you may actually have.

My garage door openers programming button is black. The myq app merely says push the programming button on your gd opener until the light turns red. It never mentions a paticular color button. There is a red light above the button, and it blinks when I push the button. It doesn't matter if I push the button, or hold it for a few seconds, the red light just blinks. I have noticed the red light staying on solid when the MyQ hub trys to connect to it. But it always goes back to blinking before going out.

My guess is that somehow the frequency used by your gdo (original remotes included) somehow is not the same as what is specified in the software for linking. I’m not an engineer but that’s what I’m thinking. I expect it’s somehow related or fixable by specifying a different gdo in the setup.

OR. I don’t think this is it because you said you programmed the sensors but....

Is your phone with the myQ app on the same local WiFi network as the hub? Meaning both on the 2.5 GHz vs 5Ghz?

No it is not, it is on the 6 Ghz network. I will log my phone, running the app, into the same 2.4 ghz network and give it another try. Or should I log the MyQ hub into the 6 ghz network? I think the first, but let me know.

Sorry, I just checked. My phone is on the 2.4 ghz network, so I guess thats out. I forgot this phone will not support the 6 ghz network. Anything else, or are waiting to speak with an engineer?

I think the hub will also only do 2.5. So that’s out

My only other novice hack approach is to specify a different model gdo during setup in the app. I’m guessing you are outside of US as your WiFi frequencies you specify are not in the US band plan. Please keep us posted. It would not be the first time the hub was trying to pair with a frequency which was mismatched by software again. Your L model number may have the answer.

Something I didn't mention before, but I also tryed programming the MyQ hub with the Phython GDO in the app. That never worked as well. In other words, I seleted Phython instead of Overhead door as the gd opener. I know that a lot of the GD opener manf. Use Genie as the programming hardware in their GD openers. Therefore you my be correct that selecting another manf. In the app might be the fix. Hopefully an engineer in your company can answer that. Thanks

Again. I think the hub is talking on the wrong freq. once you find it it will be fine I bet. It is possible you’ve got a bad transceiver as I’m sure you are aware. I’m not sure if there are different transceivers for the sensor vs the gdo.

No worries. I’ve set these up and I read here. Have you called LiftMaster yet? A little bit of a hold time but be prepared with a ladder and a telephone with a full battery. They can help.

No I have not. Do they have an affiliation with Overhead door or their programming software/hardware?

I see. Thanks for the info. Would you have Liftmasters no? I will definitely give them a call then. I looked through all my paperwork that came with the MyQ hub, never seen any mention of Liftmaster. Thanks again. You have been very helpful.!
