Products like Smartthings and LIFX have APIs. Where is MyQ's API? Will there ever be one?

Well - I am going to give it a week.  If my door does not authenticate with my credentials - I will write to every installer, and print up cards for display in lowes and home depot.  I will replace MyQ with a $99 Zwave unit, or a $15 relay.

My myq is 3 mos old - and they decided to secure me from myself.  Think about it, are we securing our house from someone that can hack the RF and access our garage, or from the meth head that breaks a window.  Common sense should be in the conversation when securing our home.

MyQ is now a failure.

I have a working solution to integrate your Alexa and a MyQ enabled garage door.
I currently have it working on my house and can issue verbal commands throught Alexa to open and close the door.

I have the files compiled and you will have to do some leg work by editing the files with your login name and password that you use for either liftmaster or myQ. It doesn't matter which site you use as the backend works for both.

You have to create a developer account on AWS (Amazon Web Services), which is free, and you have to create an Alexa Skill with the Alexa Skill Kit (ASK) and load the edited files into a Lambda function you will create.

Once all that is done your skill is automaticall enabled in Alexa and you can issue commands like,"Alexa ask the garage to close"

If you have any doubts or just don't want to or can't create the skill yourself I can do it for you if you really want the MyQ or Liftmaster integration with Alexa.

Just email me at

Why don't you package it up as a skill that prompts you for you login and make it available through the skills store?

Just got a MyQ Garage Hub for Christmas and was excited to try and make a custom script that would check at 10:30 every night to see the status of the garage door, and then text me if it was still open. Can't get any of the API's that are mentioned on the web to work. I wish there was an official one.

I just wanted to give this thread a little bump.

My company does quite a bit home automation and we would really like to get away from installing IO and Relay boxes because a manufacturer doesn't have a supported API.  Please get on it.  Or at least partner with the big home automation companies to create a module/driver. Crestron/AMX/Control4
