Multiple Users

So, I just had the MyQ garage door opener installed.  For $270 + installation, it seemed totally worth it.  The battery backup + the MyQ integration is exactly what I was looking for.  Installed the opener, configured the wifi with the opener and finally linked my opener to my account.

I have a wife AND a roommate AND kids.  I am NOT sharing my credentials with ANYONE.  That is the ENTIRE point of having credentials, they are supposed to remain SECRET.  This is absolutely RIDICULOUS that in MAY 2017 we do not have multiple user acess for the MyQ.

This isn't a developer issue.  This is a company issue.  This product has been out for YEARS and lacks basic security functionality???  Are they keeping my password in plaintext on the backend?

I seriously question the product when reps reply to other threads and simply suggest that sharing credentials is COMPLETELY ACCEPTABLE.

I will be returning this product this weekend and I will go purchase another brand entirely.

I've been waiting for multiple user access for a couple of years now.  Please keep me posted on the availability.  If it doesn't happen by the time we are ready to begin building our new home this summer then Chamberlin MyQ will not be installed in the new garage.

Yeah man... Just build your home and scratch the Lamenobrain (oops, I mean Chamberlain) product at the store. SO MANY other options out there for multi users.

I have one more garage door system to replace and it would be from this company.

I know you cant narrow it down to a specific decade but can you at least tell us if it will be before flying cars or the habitation of the first Martian colony?

I'm a professional mobile/web developer with over 15 years of experience and can tell you that if this is getting the attention it rightfully should, it would have been out MONTHS ago. This needs to be prioritized and/or outsourced if their team can't handle a simple key feature that should have been part of the MVP to begin with. C'mon fellas,  your products deserve better than this....the hardware is amazing - its time to bring your software up to speed. If you need help, lemme know ;)

Yeah, if they are using a modern framework or a sane design it would be as easy as a foreign key or two (and new account? table), and some new user management screens.

I'm amazed this basic functionality still isn't available yet! Like others stated, I'm not coughing up my credentials to multiple users. Related, my wife has no interest in most of the alerts that I like to receive, nor does she want to get hit with them during work hours, so she's annoyed enough to not use the app.

Nghi, I have some good news: you won't have to wait 10-years. We expect it will be in 2018.  A specific date hasn't been announced, but I'll let you know more info when it's available. Thanks, Chuck

Bernal, clearly you haven't read Chuck and Lauren's previous responses, so I will summarize verbatim. The liftmaster GDO has great features and functionality right out of the box. I think you're being petty by asking for a feature that was only promised over a year ago. Please be grateful that they have not yet adopted a pay per use program with the regular remote.

Richard, based on feedback we received in beta testing, we delayed the launch of Multi-User functionality to create a more robust, fully-featured experience.  A specific launch date has not yet been set, but we expect it will be in 2018.

I'll follow up and let you know when I have an update. Thanks, Chuck

I'm sure it's a lot more complex and complicated than everyone here is making it out to be.  The thing is they shouldn't have announced it until after they've already been through beta testing, received feedback, made their improvements and had a finished product ready to go.  Otherwise you've already announced it and have to release what you have in a timely manner whether it's half-baked or not.  You'll just have to provide updates to it in the future based on the consumer feedback received during beta testing.

This isn't a real solution, just a tip that might be useful for some:

Something I discovered is that you can at least set different PIN numbers within each app to Open doors and login to the MyQ App. So you could in theory set up one "shared" account to manage all the doors you have, and use that shared account to set up the MyQ app, then within each MyQ app instance, set up separate PINs for that specific user in order to be able to "Open" doors or login to the app itself without actually revealing the shared password.

It doesn't give you "user management" and door alerts go only to a single e-mail address, but maybe this workaround can still be useful for some who are concerned about giving individual users control without "sharing" a password. You could generate a random password credential for the "shared account", and have the MyQ app store it (hopefully storing of the password in the MyQ app is encrypted) without actually telling the other users what the password is, and then have them set their own PIN at the MyQ app level that allows them to log in to the MyQ App and open the door with their own PIN and not the shared account password or your own personal PIN.

Of course, once they enter that PIN then they can change the login and security options at the App Level to disable the PIN within the App and also make account-wide changes......so that PIN will have to be guarded very well! But at least you can give everyone their own PIN!

This doesn't truly enhance security, merely only adding a method of providing unique PINs to each User.

Other than this, I absolutely agree that the lack of multi-user functionality is a very poor implementation.

Hopefully Chuck's comments that this will be provided sometime in 2018 is accurate. The competition is fierce and it sucks that people have to use third-party products just to get basic functionality.

I just purchased the MyQ opener today. I installed everything and downloaded and set up the app only to find out multiple users is not a thing yet. But it looks like Chamberlain is targeting a 2018 roll out, so I will hold on a bit more before I look at other options. Chamberlain, please update with the status of this functionality when possible.

wow this is just like the last issue I had with my original MyQ base. Chamberlain finally replaced it after two years of telling us they were working. I am a little confused  and and need clarity.  if I want to share my log in with my wife, will it work. I have been having trouble opening the doors for no reason. Both my wife and I share the log in. is this why it sometimes does not open?

You know Chamberlain, making a feature available usually comes before announcing and celebrating it. I am pretty disappointed I spent all this money and now have to share my credentials with everyone in the building. Plus, everyone can now change the alerts and the schedules. Stupid.

To anyone else who finds this thread and is equally disappointed, here let me share my credentials with you so you won't rely on "multiple users support" to post:

HI Chuck/Lauren. Its been a few weeks since Liftmaster has given us a vague non-answer to this basic request, so just checking in.

If it sounds like I'm furious its because I am. It has been YEARS since we have asked for and have been promised BASIC expected functionality of a "smart" GDO and all we continue to get is, "we'll let you know". Its about time that someone gives us something more that a complete dismissal. You owe it to your customers. Stop feeding us lines, and give us the truth. Is it going to happen and when. This also goes for time notifications for door status IE Notifiy me if my door is open at 10:00PM, All we have EVER gotten is "we will let someone know" and "we are looking into it". Its now time that Liftmaster give us an ounce of respect and tell us if either of them are on the road map and how far out it is!!! This is absolutely atrocious. Stop feeding us lines, and give us something more concrete! If you can't do it, why not provide us with a contact option of someone who can??!!

I personally couldn't wait any longer for multi-user access, and instead found a reliable third party alternative that works quite well: https://amzn.to/2IHxjGo.

This is quite astonishing a delay!  And no, DON'T share your login with people as a workaround, that's nuts.

I think Chamberlin is the only company that encourages you to share your account.

"We strongly recommend that customers never share their username or password. Instead, they should add family members and other users to their devices through Ring's "Shared Users" feature. This way, owners maintain control over who has access to their devices and can immediately remove users," said Ring

It just occurred to me that by using the Sonoff/ITEAD relay in my inexpensive hardware approach to integrating Alexa/Google/IFTTT, that device control can be shared with other users thru either the Ewelnk app or IFTTT. In effect fixing this problem with Chamberlain as well. It can't tell you the open/close state of the door, however, but I don't think that's something most secondary users need.

Gogogate won't work out of the box for openers with Security+2.0 though. Like the 8550 and other openers with MyQ built in. Older openers that use just a plain push button would be OK.

Hi guys, I know maybe this is not the best place to do this, but you are the online community experiencing my problem and probably already looked for solutions. I've got the MyQ as a test in the place Im renting, and yes, it works great for my needs.

The problem is that Im building my own house, and I'll have a main gate into the property and one per car into the garage. That's 4 gates total, and I want a place where I can see the status of them all. Most important, I want to allow my gardener and my cleaning lady to open the main gate when they come for work, but not the other gates, also I'd like to know who opened the car gates if not done with the push button.

The question is: what  device can provide this functionality ? Im one month and a half away from finishing my house, and I should buy the solution that will be implemented soon. What would you recommend ?

(Im selling my MyQ when moving to my house :D in case anyone is interested)

John, Get rid of the opener quickly! Do not be duped by outsourced professional liars, aka MyQ Community Managers, that they are "working on it".  I have emails from chamberlain  stating it is "on hold" with no release date. Those of use that are stuck with the opener would however appreciate you expressing your disappointment directly to the CEO. JoAnna.Sohovich@chamberlain.com

Everyone posting here needs to go to Amazon.com and start posting reviews that users should NOT buy this product specifically because it doesn't support multiple users. Amazon is the #1 online seller of everything, so if we publicize the problem there, perhaps someone at LiftMaster take us seriously. Seriously everyone, don't just post your comments here. Post them in a place where LiftMaster will care.

I noticed on a recent app update (iOS) that they mentioned multi user functionality ) a whopping 3! woo hoo) was coming soon. So maybe now we only have to wait another year, lol.

"Coming soon! Family Share allows users to securely include up to 3 people to control your myQ devices from their own myQ app and login info. To send an invitation, select “People” from the myQ menu and follow the prompts. Sharing garage access has never been more convenient."

I believe I am using the Chamberlain app ... blue, not red.  Under the menu upper left there is a option of "People".  I've added, tested, and it works once the invitee accepts and uses the app.

Nice to hear that they are finally acknowledging things. If they keep this up they should be ready to go to go heard to head with other 2015 products in a year or two.
