Multiple Users

So, I just had the MyQ garage door opener installed.  For $270 + installation, it seemed totally worth it.  The battery backup + the MyQ integration is exactly what I was looking for.  Installed the opener, configured the wifi with the opener and finally linked my opener to my account.

I have a wife AND a roommate AND kids.  I am NOT sharing my credentials with ANYONE.  That is the ENTIRE point of having credentials, they are supposed to remain SECRET.  This is absolutely RIDICULOUS that in MAY 2017 we do not have multiple user acess for the MyQ.

This isn't a developer issue.  This is a company issue.  This product has been out for YEARS and lacks basic security functionality???  Are they keeping my password in plaintext on the backend?

I seriously question the product when reps reply to other threads and simply suggest that sharing credentials is COMPLETELY ACCEPTABLE.

I will be returning this product this weekend and I will go purchase another brand entirely.

I agree there is no reason for your credentials to be in multiple devices that are not under your control.

The feature for this should be that an account be designated at the administrator and that account can provide access to other accounts including features. some accounts may be have access to garage door other accounts to lighting and some to both as designated by the account administrator. Only one account should be an administrator for a location.

The current functionality is a terrible solution from a security stand point.

The features in the attached document are a step in the right direction but not available as of June 15, 2017

A notional rollout target quarter would be preferable to no information. The current position feels unreasonable to the customer base. Please advise.

This is ridiculous.... The only reason this was purchased was to give access to multiple users....a basic function... I'm a computer science major.... It shouldn't take years of development to add additional users.... This item gets the lowest rating from me until they add this basic function...

Really? This is standard functionality and a HUGE security risk. I will be returning the product promptly. Multiple users is a core reason to get this to begin with. It's beyond incredible you have not managed to deploy this functionality IN A YEAR!

not just a year - but a year after announcing they already supported it... they've had far more than a year to develop it ... super disappointing.

I don't think your people is working as hard as we think it is. Maybe 2 hours of chat and 2 hours of coffee and a day is almost gone? Make sure your management checks what your works are doing here. One function does not take a year to finish. If your IT department is taking longer than this, I really think you should switch your APP writers to other professional companies to do it. They wont take a year to finish it and it would be cheaper than paying a lazy worker to waste your whole year payment for them.

Not sure why everyone is having trouble placing two or more phones onto one opener. As long as you enter the same information into all the phones as you did to the very first phone you will be connected. This means same email and password. I only put this up today and have it all set up and my wife's phone and my phone both work the garage door and get notifications on them

I don't see why every other products out there has the ability to have multiple user access and Chamberlain can't figure it out.  Chamberlain should really reach out to those companies and ask for help.

As a customer I feel like you are not listening to me (us). I feel like you do not care about me as a customer and your negligence to update your software shows that there are major issues with the company and the product development.

I asked for a time based response on a periodic basis, not a generic "whenever there is an updat" non time boxed response.

Over a year ago you released to the press your plans to implement this basic security feature. You advertise security 2.0 and claim to be a secure system. The fact that you recommend people share credentials is absurd and does not meet common industry standards for security. The 2nd in a list of ten for the top ten security issues is about broken authorization that allows someone to impersonate someone else. https://www.owasp.org/index.php/Categ...

There is some basic password security confusion at play here. When setting up a MyQ account, DO NOT USE the same password as your email account password.

Also, if you want to give temporary accesss to someone like a house guest , handyman, etc you don’t have share your password or email, and also not have to change your password every time you do

Sure seems like it would be an easy app to create. With so many people asking for it, why is it taking them so long?

Also, Scott, I tried signing my wife in to my account on her phone and it never worked. I can't have two devices log in to the same account at the same time or it locks down the whole account. Then you have to ask for a new password and then go in to change that to one you'll actually remember.

Why is it so hard for Chamberlain to come out with an easy set of directions on how to do it - if you really can - or a statement that you aren't able to do it and here's why?

That sounds great. But, this has been a recurring answer from MyQ for several years. There comes a time when it just has to be done and implemented, don't you think? The installer I used for my openers were completely unaware of this topic. They still believe it can be done.

I signed my wife in to my account on her phone and it seems to work fine, now. But, I would like to add my kids on their own account and not take the chance that their devices are altered and affect everyone on my account.

What is the ETA on delivering this functionality?

I can help you with that ... they are working on it and will be coming out with great things real soon. "Real Soon" in Chamberlainise is 1 - 2 years tops ... ;-)

The good thing is this will give you time to save for the "additional hardware or fees" that will be associated with these improvements!

So if I understand the anger in John’s (the OP) post, it’s that he didn’t research his product prior to purchasing it.

The missing features are pretty basic and should be there, hopefully Chamberlain follows through on an Admin/ multi-user credentialed System soon.

linked right at the top of this thread, it's dated Jan 5 2017 and says it'll be ready in early 2017.

https://www.chamberlain.com/chamberlain/media/Library/pdf/Chamberlain-Unveils-New-MyQ-Features-at-CE...

Yes, you can pick nits and say "it wasn't a guarantee it'd be ready in early 2017" -- but it's 2018 now.  It's not unreasonable to expect the feature by, say, May or June even if it's "delayed"...

Ethan, since I posted the original thread that has all of this traction, here's what makes me upset.  This isn't about "research".  THIS IS 2017.  Multi-user functionality when you're creating a household wifi-enabled product should be USE CASE #2, right after "make sure it works".  This isn't some obscene edge case.  This should be SOP.  Clearly, your product team STILL doesn't have this feature and that is unfortunate for those who still have the product.  Get your application team together, push this feature to the front and push out the update.  This should take a few months TOPS and that's normally due to realigning priorities.  It is now 12 months after the link above referencing that it was going to be implemented.

I agree wholeheartedly John. It’s simply poor practice to announce an impending feature release and then not follow through. Another bad move by Chamberlain.

I apologize again for not having done my research before I started hammering on the keyboard - still not sure how I missed this update and thread entirely.

Enjoy your weekend, Sir!

Even poorer practice to ask for a paid “subscription” for the service to integrate with google Home. Clearly chamberlain has the technology, they are just waiting to see how much they can bilk out of their customers.

right now i share my credentials with my wife; it's a workaround.  i realize that this workaround doesn't work for everyone.

after reading this thread and the alexa thread, the chamberlain/myq development team truly disappoints me.  i'm a software developer for a big network giant.  i know all about deadlines and feature announcements, etc.  reading the responses from the chamberlain/myq personnel is hilarious.  it's a canned response.  however, i can imagine what their work environment looks like.  its probably an old garage with desks and several millennials playing video games in front of a large screen tv, laughing at everyone posting these threads.

anyone know where their development hq is?  someone can verify if i'm right.

i spent about $200 on the hub and 2 wall controllers.  so i'm not in it too much.  again, i'm ok with the workaround but i feel the frustration of all the users on this board.  it's just a shame that the chamberlain/myq developers think this is such a joke; that's my perception.

Mike H, I can assure you, this is not a joke to the Chamberlain team. We're constantly working on third-party integrations, as well as features requested by our users, such as multi-user functionality. We will post any new information on this as soon as we can. Thanks for taking the time to share your input, Lauren.

This is a huge huge issue. And please, tell me the wait is not because you have to figure out the best subscription price point. This better be a free upgrade because it should have been baked in to begin with. I just purchased the device and I too read the bulletin release indicating the feature would go Live early 2017. I should have checked into it further. I honestly figured that Chamberlain is a well known name and they are probably on top of their game. Please prove that right soon! I think I have 30 days to return... is that enough time? =\

So frustrated to purchase a product that both my husband and I use every day, and only one of us can use the MyQ app. I will be beyond frustrated if I am charged a subscription fee for multi-user feature so that both my husband and I can use the app.

Just got the $270 garage door. Got it installed, love the belt drive and how quiet it is.

Set up myQ on my phone, works awesome.

Went to set it up on my wifes phone... WTF?

I should have done a bit more research... no multiple users. What a let down. It's 2018... you can't get 2 people on an account?

Makes it hard to make an investment int he light switch... since only ONE of use could operate it via myQ.

Come on guys... the beginning of this thread was 9 month ago.

Elon Musk has launched multiple rockets in that time, and we can't get multi user accounts?

Thanks so much for giving us permission to share our logins with others while at the same time not letting Google Assistant open the door for security reasons. You say it's not a joke to you, but maybe you've missed that it's become a joke to all of your customers.
Can you advise how I can have my shop garage door on my account and share it with others that need access while at the same time not give them access to my house?
You keep saying that you are developing new functionality. Seems more like you are just busy making fake promises and half functionalities.

Having worked in computer and internet security for 20+ years and managed software testing labs, I should have been taken aback by the Community Manager's reply to Dave "...For now, you're welcome to share your log in information with your wife, so she can use the app from her phone as well. Hope that helps. Thanks, Chuck". Based on that I have decided to remove the MyQ app from my phone and have configured my router to not allow any internet communication with the LiftMaster. It is obvious they have absolutely NO understanding of security and I am not about to leave my home open to vulnerability from anything MyQ.

I'm not sure why people are having trouble here. It's only been 14 months since they said it was available. Give them time. They are currently busy actively working on offering great functionality and features that they will notify us of as soon as they become available... even though they might not really be available when they announce them. Geez, cut them some slack. Great things are coming our way!!! Great things!!
