If you look way back in this thread a month or so ago, someone answered this. It's considered a security issue. You set up an automation to turn on an intelligent lamp in your house (anywhere), and somehow attach an automation for the garage to fire off whenever the lamp automation runs. Or something like that. This would work for me since you can't enter my house from the garage.

Yes, HomeKit works fine for geo-fencing. But you are bothered by the confirmation message. You have to do as I said above to avoid the confirmation.

Roger thanks! Since we do get into the house from the garage, the confirmation does not bother me. That said, thanks for the work around. I have 1 process to do both. It is good to know that if I make the garage a dependent of the light, the confirmation would not pop.

No problem. As I said someone else worked this out. No doubt somebody will disable this work around. But honestly, they should allow it for those of us who have a detached garage with no concern for safety or security.

Gary -   Thanks for reaching out.  The MyQ Home Bridge does not include a geo-fencing feature.  -Chuck

Hmmm... I am not so sure about that Chuck as Home (Apple’s HomeKit does allow geofence and it allows for the garage door to prompt a confirmation to take action... I used to use this a lot when I was using A HomeBridge Linux hack prior to release of the the official homebridge. Just re-enabled and will test in the morning.

Gary, Roger and Scott, not supporting a geo-fence feature is the best information I have at the moment, but let me confirm that. -Chuck

Thanks, Chuck. Hopefully you and Apple can see oir point that ghis is a legitimate “requirement.”There’s little justification to not allow opening the garage door when you drive up to the garage. It’s basically the same as allowing the remote to workk within a small distance., IMHO.

Also, it just makes sense to close the garage door when I drive away and forget to push the button on the remote. This automation actually improves security. Thanks for listening.

Gary, Roger, and Scott,

I've learned we now do allow for geofencing, as of August.  With the Home Bridge, you can use Apple’s geofencing capability to automatically close the garage door but if you schedule an event to open the door, it will ask permission before the open event will happen, forcing you to unlock the phone and confirm this command.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Chuck

I’m literally repeating myself on this one topic ALL OVER the internet, in hopes that folks will just stop buying MyQ devices until this is satisfactorily resolved.

And Chuck, I get that it isn’t *YOUR* policy that’s got us hog-tied, and I’m not mad at you—you’re a good sport, a clear & articulate writer, and only once misplaced an apostrophe when denoting a plural possessive—but I’m pretty peeved at Chuck Chamberlain.

Eager to get a globally applicable solution, so we can all start living like The Jetsons.

Levi, apologies for the typo. And your point is clear. I'm going to turn my attention to seeing what alternatives may be available to you. Chuck

Honestly, if we can’t solve it for the whole MyQ community, solving it for me feels a bit, idk, unsatisfactory. But I’d love to see what you’ve got.

Also, nobody’s perfect. :D (But you’re close.) is that you on Twitter, too? Or is your support team staffed exclusively with Chucks?

That's me on Twitter as well. I would hope that if there's a solution for you, it will help others too. I'd post the option on the Community. Let's see what I come up with. Chuck

I have Geofencing working on the bridge at my house and have since earlier on this thread (sorry for the delayed response). When I arrive or leave I have a message pop that asks if I want to run the open or close commands. I simply tap run on my Watch or my lock screen on my iPhone and the door open / closes.  Another individual posted on a thread that instead of creating a geofence action for the door itself which required a user confirmation... setup a geofence automation for a light, and then setup a second automation triggered by that geofence light sequence. Because the geofence light trigger is actually making the request to the door, (opposed to a direct geofence request to the door) there would not be user confirmation prompt.

I have not tested this personally as my Watch is easy to confirm the open / close request.  Additionally, in that format of a setup, I have a close street behind my house that if I go running or drive on that street it would errantly trigger the geofence causing the light and door open / close possibly when I would not want it too.

I just installed the myQ HomeBridge this month and I can't get it to open garage door when I arrive home. I have set up a Homekit automation, one for my wife and one for me. If we arrive home, and it is night time, it turns on the porch lights, yard light and outside garage lights. I've also set it to open my garage door if I arrive home and her garage door if she arrives home. Everything else works, but garage doors won't open. A separate automation is set up when I or my wife arrive home during the day to open garage and turn on inside garage light. Garage won't open in that automation either. Is there a software update to the bridge I may need to do to support this?
