Internet Gateway (CIGBU) vs. Universal Control (MyQ-G0201) for newly installed MyQ enabled Opener

Recently purchased a model LW3000EV.  It was to include a CIGBU for Internet connectivity.  Long story - I ended up with a MyQ-G0201.  Will the G0201 provide the same functionality that the CIGBU does? Will the "universal" nature of this device cause me to lose ANY functionality of the aforementioned opener?  I can still return the G0201 and wait until they have the CIGBU in stock.  But I'm anxious to get this puppy rolling!

I'm new to this (and automation in general) so any pertinent advice or comments would be welcome.  TIA

I think you should take back the MyQ-G0201 and get the CIGBU.  It works great on my LW2200 so I am sure it will work great with your LW3000EV.  The internet gateway is cheaper and all you need is a router with an ethernet connector.  Practically all wiFi routers have the ethernet connectors  that you can connect your internet gateway to.

To clarify - I'm a noob when it comes to home automation.  But I've worked in IT for 30 years, running the gamut from desktops to mainframes, having spent a fair amount of that time as a network admin, and having several network certifications.  So when I called Chamberlain tech support to ask the same question as above, I was surprised to be told unequivocally that neither hardware option would work, since I have a detached garage.  She didn't ask any questions about equipment placement, distance or any other (what I consider) pertinent questions.  When I tried to discuss the technical aspects, like why it would matter with the CIGBU, since it is a wired connection and would only require a little longer patch cord to reach the detached garage, she stuck to her story that in her "experience", it wouldn't work. It was at that point that I knew I'd have to rely on Internet research to make either option work, as Chamberlain tech support is worse than worthless when it comes to these products.  Maybe she was an expert in garage door opener door tracks or somesuch...  Who knows?

At any rate, to make a long story even longer, I decided to use the MyQ-G0201 I was given.  It installed flawlessly and is working perfectly so far.
