Instructions for enabling IFTTT with Alexa and MyQ. Looking for tutorials.

Hello.
I am willing to pay the $10/year fee if that means that Chamberlain will follow through on what it takes to provide a for-fee service. Are there tutorials that walk a user through connecting IFTTT through to other popular platforms such as Alexa, a frequently requested feature?

Please advise on if/when this will be available and what the SLA will be for support on a paid services model.

so i felt like you and took the plunge, but i feel like right now, there's not much in this deal to make it worth it.  When you go to the chamberlain site, you sign up and pay there... then wen you log in to IFTTT, you connect your IFTTT account to your Chamberlain account when you choose the applets involved... they wont connect if you havent paid for the subscription.  but the only applets that are available (FOR NOW) aren't much better than what's on the actual app. in fact, you cant OPEN the door with alexa.. you can only close it. thats my understanding though. so someone please correct me if im wrong. But i tried the geofencing thing "close my garage if i drive out of the selected area" and the applet went off while i was sitting in my garage painting some cabinets... 2 times.. so i turned off that applet.. no worky! lol.. but i hope someone does post some tips, pointers, instructions, benefits of using the IFFTTT/Amazon method over Google Home route.... i have alexa on my phone and in my fire stick, but i've not bought an echo (dot, show, or otherwise) .. im leaning towards google home since im deep in the googleverse... just havent pulled the trigger on a unit yet.. waiting till after the google announcement this week to see what my latest options are....

Why the heck would you pay for a VERY BASIC service?!?!!! Only people who don't understand the market and hope to get some people to fall for it do this these days. I rather spend some time on a work-around and learn something doing so. The best solution seems to be a relay behind the actual switch to simulate a press on the open/close button.

Thanks for reaching out. Right now, we don't provide tutorials for connecting IFTTT to Alexa. 

We are very aware many of our app users have requested an Amazon Alexa integration, and we'll certainly keep that in mind as we define our future technology roadmap with potential partners.

I have also taken the plunge to try and get MyQ to work with Alexa or Google Home.
With Alexa and IFTT I can close my garage doors.
With Google Home I can close my garage doors and query status (open or closed).
Both require the MyQ subscrition.
Sadly neither will open the doors via voice command, something I expected for a paid subscription.

I would have thought that closing a door presents more of a safety hazard (children, pets, etc when not in view) security should not be a concern as my smart locks open and close with both voice assistants for some time.

Looking into Garageio to replace these openers with quieter ones, as I am not impressed with the lack of consumer support. Clearly Chamberlain is holding out on purpose and likely for more ways to secure a paid service.

Apparently, Chamberlain really does not understand the what people want. So you can close the garage door but not open it??? Maybe you should be super scared that your sensor doesn't see something, you close the garage door and somebody gets hit. So really you should disable opening and closing!!!!

This is a bad sentiment. You also don’t state this limitation anywhere when I bought the device. I want to open the garage when I arrive home. Set up your own geofencing implementation if you want - until then, let your customers decide what level of risk they want to take. Alexa integration is also not difficult. A smarthings hub will drive Auto open but I don’t really want another hub. Would you please address this shortcoming? My use case - motorcycle. I want to park in the garage but I don’t want to 1) carry a separate garage door opener on the bike, 2) park, take off my gloves, get the phone, wait for Face ID, or en the app, open the door and finally park inside.

Security of my home should be for me to decide.
There is always a trade off between convenience and perceived security.
I can unlock my front door and open a garage door with other providers so I am puzzled with Chamberlain's position, particularly when they offered this feature prior to Your paid subscription service.

Chris, I can stand outside your house and say "Alexa, open the garage door". That isn't very safe unless it does voice signature matching to ensure it is you (which it doesn't do right now).

No, I don't think you could Amr. Just like you can't unlock my smart locks on the doors, adjust the temperature in my house or adjust my lights.
Chamberlain has found a way to monetize it for Homekit, they are just holding out for same.
At the end of the day it's my choice if it's a safety vs convenience issue.

I can this the blockbuster argument.  Something will come around to replace MyQ soon, and they will close shop - just like blockbuster. P.S. Amr, works for blockbuster....and have no opinion on how Alexa works with automation.

Lauren, it's not just my perspective, it's my requirement for the purchase of goods and services, they must meet my needs.
Yours and Chuck's responses have clarified that Chamberlain is not able or interested to meet my needs or requirments.
I have made arrangements to return my 3 units and replace with equipment and services which do offer appropriate support to their customers.

Hopefully Chamberlain's empty promises to add this functionality comes to fruition while you still have a satisfied customer base.

Actually Chris, as the manufacturer it’s their decision, not yours. They are the ones that would be fending off the bad press and lawsuits if the security wasn’t up to snuff. There are many of us that enjoy the functionality currently available, and look forward to improvements in the near future.

Good to hear you are enjoying the limited functionality of what MyQ and Chamberlain are offering you Ethan.
There are countless others of us however who have requested more.  
I assume you are referring to what Chamberlain offers is their decision, which is of course true.  However what I deem required, acceptable and what i purchase is all up to me.
In this world of IOT, only I decide between convenience and security and only I choose which  manufacturers i will support.  
My choice is to support those who provide the functionality I require.

* Before "coming down on you" I want to give you some credit. You actually made the most compelling argument so far but I am afraid your mojo won't work on me ;)

* Most importantly, I think you are missing the point. All the devices you have in mind provide some function PLUS provide integration. Chamberlain
- sells you the device (the garage door opener)
- then sells you another device to do the integration
- and then charges you to use the service of that device in any meaningful way, meaning integration with your home automation system.
Based on this, the devices you list are 3-in-1 devices while Chamberlain offers each individually and then tries to charge you for each of it!!

You said "It costs a lot of money to keep these products up to date and secure." Sure, if you do it the Chamberlain way. They want to build custom solutions for certain home automation systems and then still have a lot of people being upset because their system isn't supported or because a certain feature isn't supported on their system.
As I said on this forum before, all you need to do is allow integration through IFTTT (simple open/close/status/alarm is fine) and publish an API that anybody can use. Both of those will be based on the same technology/code and won't cost much to implement and maintain.

Well, I have the SkyBell which is by far the most expensive device I have. There is no monthly charge for anything and the amount of data they transfer is actually pretty large (HD video both upload and download and storage). Just like Kodak, a poster child of a successful company, did go out of business because they couldn't adopt to the market. Chamberlain has far few competitors but they better be careful, too and in my opinion they clearly take the wrong path. Integration costs relatively little if done correctly and then they should market the hell out of it. Instead, they try to be sleazy and instead milk their customers.

Just my 2 cents. I am getting tired of this whole conversation.

@ Peter Williams: I don’t know if you work for Nexx or not, but the Nexx is a polished turd compared to the MyQ. I’d bet 1/2 of the users here would fail to get the Nexx installed, let alone up and running without some serious tech support.

Well with the logic you have presented you'l be paying a couple of dozen independent hardware manufacturers a buck or two a month for every integration you plan to do!

Lights 
TV/Soundsystems
electronic devices
wall switches
Specialised smart appliances/options (my robot vacuum) 
??

@David, lightbulbs don’t count. There’s zero complexity.

The iThings is the biggest piece of garbage, but yes...under $100.00. The Lutron is spot on. Ya got me there. (And Lurton does it well, too).

Let's not move the goal posts now. Not to mention, garage doors are about as complex as a light bulb when it comes to smart devices. Open/close (on/off) and ability to report state are as far either goes. Hell, some bulbs can change color, which in my estimation, make them more complex than a simple garage door.

a good point also the benefit of the alert (which for me sadly hasn't worked ever) is more notification/smart alert and as such is more useful as is, where as the status options would be more rare "google did i leave my garage door open" i s less likely then "google open my garage door and being told "your garage door is already open!"

Starting to think there is no development team at all... havent seen or heard anything from them in 2 years lol... They have a bunch of carboard cutouts in offices somewhere not debugging and solving these issues lol
