Trying to set it up so when  I get close to home, it auto opens the door for me.   I can set it to CLOSE the door, but not OPEN it ?   That seems silly.

Any help please?

Thanks,
Gary

Gary,

For security reasons, we are not permitting the garage door to open via IFTTT. Other options are available on the IFTT integration, such as closing the garage door when leaving your home: you can program your garage door to automatically close if a specific condition is met, such as when you leave an assigned geofenced area around your home.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Chuck

Is there anything in the works to allow the door to open with IFTTT and MyQ Geofencing?

Hahaha ha.... No, chamberlain is your lord! They shall not allow you to pass (through your own door)! This is for your "safety". Welcome to the chamberlain dissenters club! A simple request, especially for a company that makes you *pay* for access! Make a warning that you are making an unsafe decision... Make 50 warnings, I don't care, but for crying out loud let *me* decide when I think it is safe to open my door!

If my watch (or phone) is unlocked, I can use Siri "Hey Siri, open my garage door". It won't work from a HomePod (I think) but I've done it with my watch.

Gary, there is a 3rd party and inexpensive way to control your door the way we want. I gave up on Chamberlain. I realized far too late how obtuse they are, otherwise I would have returned the opener.

That said, I now control my door with both Alexa, and IFTTT for the geofencing. If you have a newer door with Security+ 2.0 and you're handy with a soldering iron it's not difficult. If you're using MyQ Garage on an older door opener that uses a simple (not smart or Security+ 2.0) garage door button, it's even easier and doesn't require any soldering.

I tried a work around like this using IFTTT for geofencing but it would open the door anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes AFTER I got home.
But recently I stumbled on to this solution www.gotailwind.com  They have a video showing the auto-open feature on their YouTube channel and it looks pretty slick. It appears to use GPS accuracy to open your door at whatever distance you set it to. I just ordered one and can't wait to try it out.

I'll admit there's sometimes variability in IFTTT, but as long as I don't warp through my geofence (a pretty small zone so I don't trigger it when driving by the neighborhood) then my door is open or almost done opening 95% of the time. Only once did it not start to open until I was sitting in front of it.

Plus for me, a bit of tinkering for $20-$30 vs $130 ($90 on sale) for the TailWind sure minimizes the impact of Chamberlain's "position" on the whole matter, lol.

True. I just didn't want to do any soldering / tinkering and I liked the fact that it could actually sense which car I was driving as we have a 2 car garage. So when I drive my car I'm going to program it to open the left door and when I'm in my wife's car it will open the right door :)

Bob, I know you don't want a DIY option, but for others peaking in, you can easily have it do what you want WRT two openers; just make two of the above setups, with an independent IFTTT account on each phone. Then set each IFTTT up to control the specific opener module for the appropriate door.

Their “security” means I don’t need to pay for IFTTT integration, which is useless without an “open” action. Why can’t you just pay your lawyer$ to write a legale$e disclaimer to CYA and enable the open action? (Or get smarter lawyers...or just fire them)

Or when it is auto opened force a push notification.  It's worthless without an auto open.  I am just going to return the one I just bought.

I just realized I should not have paid to be able to control my garage door from IFTTT via google assistant. i was excited when I got my door closing and the very next thing i tried was a geofence when i arrive home to open, how sweet would that be, but apparently some genius decided to disallow this, i know technically it is feasible but they do not permit this action which is ludicrous to me.  Wish I would have known before settling on this opener and forking over $10...live and learn i guess.

Agreed, Ben. FWWI, my (begrudgingly created) solution is working great for me!

Any chance MyQ is going to enable this feature soon? or should I return it like others have and do my own!?

Yikes. You definitely dropped the ball on this one Chamberlain. Clearly you need to do some user/case studies to validate what you think is "safe" versus what your customers are demanding. It's a garage door opener, not a home security system. Reading this thread thus far this oversight is costing you customers. Maybe if you provide more explanation as to what deems this feature "unsafe" will provide closure to your customers who are feeling buyer's remorse. All that said, this thread shouldn't be about Chamberlain's poor business decisions but instead solutions for their customers since that's what they are here for.

How about GogoGate or Tailwind? Obviously per your liability concerns you would not advocate the use of 3rd party accessories or enhancement to your product. However, if you know that such devices could address the needs of a chunk of your customers why not direct people to research such solutions? If you want, even provide a disclaimer saying "perform at your own risk" or "we are not liable for damages or security risks this will cause, and additions of such devices may void warrantee", I mean if you really wanted to CYA. People will be mad that they will have to pay for something in addition to the $200 garage door opener they just bought for a simple feature but at least it's a solution. Otherwise you get what you have now, customers questioning the quality of your product and your lack of attention towards your customers' concerns.

Again, no intention to bash the product. Nobody will question the quality of the opener as far as its primary function to open the door but in this era of smart homes and connectivity this is a huge gap that needs to be filled. We all know that it's as simple as you "flipping a switch" to enable this feature so theoretically you can easily flip the switch from your customers loathing you to loving you.

Worthless integration if I can't open my garage door!
