When will Chamberlain change what I originally paid for (NO SERVICE FEES) so I can stop hating my Garage Door Opener?

I heartily agree with your position.  There is no way that I will pay a monthly or annual fee to control my garage door opener.  I will be installing 2 new garage door openers in the near future.  Unless a fee-free, integrated (i.e., supported) interface to Alexa is available at that time, those openers will not be Chamberlain models.

Keith, we understand subscription fees aren't right for some people. Regarding Alexa, we don't currently support it but we're working on numerous third-party integrations and will announce their availability as soon as they are ready. Lauren

Lauren, I'm late to this party and I see that I missed out on the FREE upgrade that will allow me to use Apple Homekit and Siri.  I purchased my Chamberlain WD1000WF from Home Depot about 18 months ago.  At the time it was advertised that I'd get IFTTT functionality with NO MONTHLY SERVICE CHARGES.  Now that I've started to add smart controls to the lighting in my house and I'm using IFTTT I find that Chamberlain falsely advertised the no service charge thing and they are in fact trying to charge a monthly fee.

So my questions are....

1.  I just purchased the MYQ Home Bridge and the MYQ Interior Light Switch.  Will I be required to pay a monthly fee for IFTTT in order to use these devices?

2.  I registered my GDO after I purchased it and was never notified about the free upgrade.  I only found out about that after looking on this site regarding the ransom fee for IFTTT.  I think it's extremely unfair to those of us who want HomeKit functionality to have to pay for a pricey upgrade given the fact that we were lied to about IFTTT.  IFTTT is a free service and even if they are charging a fee to Chamberlain the cost is minimal.  I would have paid a little extra for the hardware up front for that feature rather than be stuck with monthly service charges.  In fact I did pay extra for that feature!  All I really want IFTTT for is to turn on a light when my GDO opens or turn off the light when it closes.  I could also use a proximity recipe to open or close the door.  I could do all those things IF Chamberlain would allow it without charging a stupid fee for IFTTT.  Well most of those things because Chamberlain will not allow anyone to OPEN the door through IFTTT.  UGH.

3.  So I ask you, can I still be refunded for the purchase of the MYQ Home Bridge?  I think I should

I am personally interested in Free integration with my Google Home - just like ALL my other 'Smart' devices that I pay extra for (in the beginning, like my Chamberlain) NOT through after sales service fees! C'mon, if I knew there was going to be service fees - I never would have paid Extra for the Chamberlain model with MyQ - I would have opted for the much cheaper Generic Chamberlain model!

Michael, we understand that subscriptions are not right for everyone. Are the base MyQ features meeting most of your needs? Lauren

Lauren,
Yes - the other basic features of MyQ do work great - thanks for asking! :-) I like opening and closing the garage door from my phone and being able to see the status of my garage door (making sure it's closed) from anywhere in the world!
I'm just disappointed more than anything to see that the feature I was also really looking forward to (connecting with my Google Home) and reading on the box that it would be free, would cost me an additional ~$100 over ten years time (@ $10/yr) (which would add somewhere around 40% more to the initial price). If I had known when I bought the product, I might have even paid an additional $100 for the item, I just don't like having to pay when it was pretty clear on the box that there would be no service fees and the added functionality would be coming for Free.
Either way, I know you are just the bearer of bad news and that you are not personally too blame - I was just hoping Chamberlain would change it's thinking on this matter and simply decide to add to the price of the initial unit cost for new customers and not charge Anyone the monthly/yearly service fee. I think most people expect No Service Fees because of the entire nature of The Internet & IFTTT integration - mainly that virtually all (except for Chamberlain) Smart Devices cost more up front (compared to their 'dumb' counterparts) and have no further costs after the initial outlay.
Merry Christmas!!

From what I've seen on these forums - it sounds like a Class Action suit might be in order for false/deceptive advertising. Please reply if you are interested in seeking a Class Action suit! That will get Chamberlain to fix their policy.
