How to extend garage door access to multiple users?

I thought it would be possible to use MyQ Garage Door Opener kit to open the garage door remotely for guests, or that other family members would be able to install the app and open the door themselves. Similar to letting other people see your dropcam videos.

But now that I have installed the equipment and the app, I don't see any way to configure multiple users without their having to sync their phones to the MyQ gateway.

Secondly, it seems that clicking on the garage door will immediately open it if it's closed or close it if it's open. Can't I just check to confirm the icon's current state, rather than always initiate an action?

No, if using the MyQ app all users need your username and password. The state of the door is shown in the APP, if the door is open the door should show that state, and if the door is closed it should show the door closed in the APP. It works perfectly correctly for me, and my whole family has the APP. All use the same logon and password. As I use only the MyQ equipment I do not know how dropcam videos work. I would think if you want people to get into your home you can trust them with your username and password. You can change the password later if you no longer want them to have it, or change it first with a password you will not use again and change it back once they should not be able to access your home. Or let them call you to open and close the door. The APP will work any were you are.

ok, thanks for the info. It would be nice if Chamberlain updated its documentation to explain these situations.

The won't because their development team didn't even think about these situations. Had they thought about them they would have been implemented in a reasonable fashion.

Access control systems provide authorized individuals safe and secure access in and out of various parts of your business while keeping unauthorized people out. They can range from electronic keypads that secure a single door to large networked systems for multiple buildings. No need to replace lost keys, hunt down old keys from terminated employees, or wonder who has access to which areas. The most basics role of an access control system is to keep out anyone who is not supposed to enter an area. This can be the front door, a parking garage, a server room, a personnel records room, or any other sensitive area. Finally, consider what other systems need to connect to your access control system. Monitored alarm systems and CCTV systems are two good examples.

This is really stupid that I can not give access to this app for other rmembers of my family  tied to their own email id and passwords. so if multiple people want to open and close the garage doors then i have to login with my email id and password on their phone/smart device.

I am not sure what Chamberlain considers early 2017!? They said multi user should already be available.

Great idea, failure of execution.  MyQ won't share the ID with multiple drivers in the household with app. Even though, Chamberlain made a big deal at CES about "new features" and sharing capability as posted above.

Larry, we are still developing the multi-user feature and will make sure you and other customers are made aware when it becomes available. In the meantime, you can she your access information with other trusted members of the household. This will enable them to receive the same alerts that you do. Lauren

This sucks! Very dissapointed that at this time and age, we still do not have a solution for this issue.
I was under the impression that everyone at home would be able to independently access in and out of the garage. What do I do now, dismantle the garage door opener, and take it back?

They can’t because the company share a single account and password with all the employees. They don’t know how to do multi-user access.

This has been a big deal for over a year now? What’s the progress on this feature? Is this too low on priorities? Last Chamberlain I buy if this isn’t fixed soon. I’m sure I’m not alone...

"...still developing the multi-user feature..." - is this in Beta yet? When do you expect it to be released?

I just bought and installed MyQ - I will be taking it back due to 2 reasons and submitting bad reviews to warn others before buying and installing. I wish I had read these forums before wasting my time!

  1. No guest access
  2. Inability to use with Google Home or IFTTT unless I pay a fee. This should be part of a "Smart Home" system. This wasn't obvious to me when I was at Best Buy, the sales reps didn't know of the fee structure and it's nowhere in your product literature. I feel I was bait-n-switched.

Found this press release stating "Early 2017" - it's now LATE 2017....
https://www.chamberlain.com/chamberlain/media/Library/pdf/Chamberlain-Unveils-New-MyQ-Features-at-CE...

And only 3 users??? Why the limit - what about a family of four?

This whole system is a scam and has to be one of the worst products I have ever invested money in.  Is is now the end of 2017 and the functionality is still not available.  Same as the functionality of being able to schedule open and close events... Both functionality that was advertised to be be available but only to find out after purchasing that neither of these are available and all we as consumers get is a run around and weeks upon weeks of no answers.

Jason and Steve, thanks for communicating your concerns. The MyQ Smart Garage Hub comes with great management and monitoring functionality out of the box. The subscription fees only apply to users who want added functionality from the IFTTT and Google Home integrations. Regarding multi-user functionality, I'll provide updates as new information becomes available. Hope that helps. Lauren

Hi Lauren - I bought mine at Best Buy who have an extended holiday return policy going until mid Jan. Is the release date before mid January and can you provide more information on how multiuser functionality would work?

Otherwise, I'll return it and move on to a competitor's product that has this functionality and even opens the door when you enter the geofence such as driving in my driveway.

I would think the app development for these features is the easy part compared to developing, marketing and selling the actual hardware! Concerned this isn't part of the app yet despite your press release from the beginning of the year. It signals to us that there are issues with the development and enhancement of the software features - which is what differentiates your product from a physical remote on my visor!

Steve, the release date has not yet been announced, but I'll share more as soon as can.  With this feature, multiple users with unique logins will be able to easily access and control a MyQ-enabled garage door opener or gate operator.

Thanks for expressing your concern.  Based on feedback we received in beta testing, we delayed the launch of Multi-User functionality in order to create a more robust, fully-featured experience.

It's now well into the first quarter of 2018, and still no multi-user access. Is this feature really coming? It wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that 2 users can't even log into the same account simultaneously. Basically my wife cannot use the remote control features.

You’re not supposed to ask that sensitive question. The company is trying very hard to ignore and hope their customers forget over time... years.

I can’t believe this app only works for a single user. I just spent the best part of yesterday installing this garage opener only to find out the app gives an error when I try to add the same myQ device to my wife’s phone! Had I known before I installed it I would not have wasted my money. Share my userid and password with everyone I want to use the app? Seriously ? I can see why this is not properly documented as it would kill sales. I’m seriously disappointed as it takes away most of the value I thought I was getting by purchasing a smart phone enabled garage door opener. I will be writing a review making this more visible to others so they don’t fall for the marketing hype on this product.

Purchase this particular garage door opener because it stated it works with wink home hub and it does. After installing and programming the device found out that It will only work with one account (really!), and I will have to give out my account information to individuals (Really!) that I want to grant access to. Not really what most people want to do (nor I), The idea for me was to monitor the system when I am away (not that I don't trust people, but) to monitor what user opens any door at my home at anytime I am not there. Seems security is not a top priority when it comes to multi user. I would have gone a different route and continued developing my own if I would have known this huge issue.
Guess I am stuck now and continue to be unhappy with this product and its lack of this development.

As a workaround for multi-account use, if you are using Apple Homekit you can share your homekit home with other apple users, and they can use the Apple Home interface to control the garage door.

I think it also give them access to all of your HomeKit accessories and not just the garage.

Very true and a good point. The person I wanted to give access to was my wife, so it was okay for her to also have access to our thermostats etc, but not an ideal workaround for someone that doesn't need or want access to everything.

The app on Google Play Store has bad reviews but that is in most cases just due to the user having poor WIFI in the garage.

One of the earlier posts from Lauren at Chamberlain indicated that my wife and I would both receive alerts if using the MyQ app on different phones (same sign-in); however, I am getting the push notification text alerts and she is not (mine is Apple, hers is Android).  I spent quite a while on the phone with Chamberlain (MyQ) support today, but they weren't able to resolve the issue.

So now it is July 2018   Multiple user availability?   The whole sharing of ID/Passwords is crazy. Not to mention the fact if you need to delete an account you must reset the opener = reseting the openers, your in-car opener and the keypad.  STUPID..   I'm glad I came across this forum BEFORE I purchased one of these!

Incompetence, or lack of investment?

This isn't rocket science. We should be able to add and delete users, and specific which devices they can control. There are multiple public domain authentication and authorization mechanisms that can be written into a piece of software. Kerberos, I'm looking in YOUR direction. Plenty of federation technologies that would allow us to log in using our Google or Facebook accounts, too.

This level of delay frankly scares the crap out of me. You're either not investing in your product, or worse you have no idea what you're doing. And if you have no idea what you're doing I need to get your gateway the hell off my internal network before someone uses it to hack me - an everybody else using it.

If you have iPhones you can run a Hombridge server and share garage access.
