How to connect Liftmaster 8355w with MyQ

Since 2015, the MYQ-G0201 MyQ-Garage system has controlled my 2 Genie garage doors. The drive shaft on one Genie finally broke down. Based on my satisfaction with MyQ, I had a pro install the Liftmaster 8355W. The installer was unfamiliar with MYQ-G0201, so I said I would figure it out myself. But I can’t find any documentation.

Should I be able to use one MyQ app to control the MYQ-G0201 and the Liftmaster? Or do I have to have separate apps? Do I have the MYQ-G0201 learn the new opener?

Thank you, I was contacted, and it took a few emails, but I finally got everything working.

It turned out that I did not need to create a new Liftmaster account (which the Liftmaster site would not let me do anyway). Instead, I merely went into the MyQ app and added the Liftmaster 8355W as a new device. None of the online documentation explains this.

Secondly, I also had trouble getting the Liftmaster 8355W to work with the HomeLink buttons in my 2017 BMW i3. After a couple of fruitless support calls, I googled and found this youtube video. The nice German guy in this video showed exactly what the HomeLink lights look like, and the key part was to initially clear the Homelink memory for about 20 seconds. I did not have to use the Learn button on the 8355W at all.

BTW, neither the BMW nor the HomeLink sites had a link to the above video. Vexing, to be sure!

Whew! Thank you again, MyQ Community Manager, for your help!
