MyQ won't open garage door with Google Assistant. Already subscribed. Response from MyQ is: For security purposes, I cannot open the garage door yet.

Glad the conversation is back. I just moved into a new home that has myq built into the unit and was utterly disappointed not being able to open my garage with Google. :(

Any updates from Chamberlain?

The homeowner can't open his garage door "for security reasons".  it reminds me of CapitalOne Bank telling me they couldn't discuss why may auto loan application was denied "to protect my personal privacy."  I had to change banks to learn my credit report was locked and all that was needed was my phone number to unlock it.

Ryan, you can perform other functions with the Google Assistant, but opening the garage door is not one of them. For security reasons, that function is not available at this time. Lauren

so why is it available through the myQ app? i mean if the credentials are being passed from MyQ to IFTTT or Google, then what's the issue here? im really not sure what im paying for.  Some of the IFTTT applets dont even work.  The "when i leave my area, close my door" applet was firing off while i was sitting in my garage painting a cabinet... i was confused for a minute... nope, not leaving my area.. still right here! lol.. had to turn that one off.. and if it wont open or close, why pay for IFTTT and not just use the MyQ app for free? "Sell" me the reason i gave you guys $10/yr. Tell me the benefits .... thanks!

Tony, this is a difficult one to diagnose. Opening the garage door is not a function permitted on IFTTT. This would indicate that something else was causing your garage door to activate. Is it possible any of the issues on this page may have occurred: https://goo.gl/zaFnEY? Let me know. Lauren

Lauren, whoever said anything about opening the door? This is all about closing the door! You guys got to get your stuff together! So I cancelled my IFTTT linking subscription to go with the Google home subscription. And now I'm still waiting on an answer on to why I cannot link my google home to my MyQ account! Somebody had this question a month ago and I still don't have an answer to the same exact question. Really pointless to be paying for something that doesn't work. A lot of negativity and frustration flowing through these forums, definitely for good reason. Especially if people are experiencing problems worse than mine.

Well, that explains why they don't let you open the garage door without having to manually enter another code. It's because their service is totally unreliable and closes/opens doors whenever it feels like it. I have a lot of automated devices in my home and NONE, absolutely NONE do something without being asked to do it. Once in a blue moon they don't do what you tell them to do. If  Chamberlain is worried about that then they would have to be worried about CLOSING the garage door and not opening it. Clearly they have some very serious issue that no other company I use has. Hmm, but wait a minute, don't they claim that the $10/year is worth it because of their superior reliability, cough, cough.... PLEASE!!!!! Chamberlain make at least the basic service (open door, close door, door status, sensor triggered, light status, etc.) FREE and RELIABLE like everybody else does. That means IFTTT and an open API (so Chamberlain doesn't have to do the work).

Chuck, thanks for the response. I don't have an issue with the garage door opening/closing spontaneously but others seems to have that issue. See for instance Tony's comment above and there are others.

Now why do I not have that issue? Because I don't use MyQ. Why? I purchased the internet gateway a long time ago hoping to integrate my garage door with my home automation system as I do with all my lights, doors (not garage door), video cameras, security system, etc. Unfortunately, there is still no open API and you charge for even the most basic IFTTT integration like open door, close door, get status, trigger when the (infrared?) sensor is triggered. These are 4 super basic functions and I simply won't pay for that. Even my doorbell that needs to send around a lot of data (video) doesn't charge. Hence the internet gateway is still laying around unused which I tell everybody who asks for my input regarding home automation.

It's secure enough to open my deadbolt, buy movies, start my DRYER ( no hazard there, right?) And it will bring a 100+ lb garage door DOWN on anyone or anything without me being there.... But ask it to open as I'm pulling in the drive?
Nope, too scary.

That’s a real life scam. I almost bought my google home, my myq hub and did all the set up just to realize to open the garage door I need an additional subscription. I still did that while I hated the idea of having to pat a subscription which seemed like a rip off for no reason. But anyway, after that all the sound out of the google home - “ sorrry for security reasons the myq cannot still open your door” dafuuuuuuuuuqqq

You kidding ne. You made me buy your myqhub and subscrption to do what then ????

Kesh, thanks for sharing this. Having said that, I think most folks won't know what to do to replicate what you did. So how EXACTLY did you wire this up (drawings)? I assume the wall switch is just shortening the circuit when you press the button. That means your WiFi relays would have to be put in parallel to the wall switch. So I guess you use the normally open (NO) of the relay and stick the two wires into the same slot on your opener as the two wires that come from the wall switch. Also, does this relay automatically go back to it's open stage once it has been triggered to close? Some step-by-step instructions would be super helpful.
Btw, is there a z-wave version of this module?

Setting the system up requires a 2.4 wifi it will not work on a 5 which is an issue if you had a network set up like mine. Literally spent 2 hours adjusting stuff so I could say hey Google open the garage only to find out 1 I had to pay 10 bucks a year after a 30 day free trial and then wait 30 min for it to link to Google assistant then come to find out you can't open the garage door for security reasons? Seriously? How the F is that any different than me using the app and tapping a button? Epic fail. Canceling and buying the 6 dollars circuit board and basically pissed I bought the myq for 99 bucks. You want to keep customers than let them open the garage, add the Google assistant to the app and do it for free for users with the MyQ system. Other wise this forum post is going to get very long and full of pissed of people. Thank God for YouTube!

And don't charge for IFTTT. Most home automation systems can use IFTTT. If they would offer this free of charge for the most basic service (open/close/status/alarm) then a lot of people would be happy.

Btw, they (Chuck from Chamberlain) seem to claim that IFTTT integration is from a 3rd party. I am pretty sure it is not. In either case, the need to offer this and at no charge. As somebody else said, it's not about the money because almost everybody here could afford it but it's the fact that they want to milk us.

Btw 2, I actually think that in addition to IFTTT they should also open an API to EVERYBODY, I don't want to depend on some web service like IFTTT.

There is NO way that someone would stand outside my living room window & know to scream "hey Google, tell myq to open garage.
Easy security legal recommendation.... Charge what you charge for a subscription, have a "rule" toggle to turn on/off open capabilities, & send an instant notification to the users phone when garage is opening. You could even go as far as letting a user set up a 4 digit code in the app & then the user would have to say, "hey Google, tell myq to open garage using 1234.
And for even more added sales pitch, offer an in garage camera to go with the bundle (just like the one you just created for the new Amazon in-garage drop off you're launching) for those that don't have outside cameras!!
There is no way I'm paying $1 a month to ask if my garage door is open & then have to ask to close it if it is. Too simple to have to pay.

I totally agree. You made the right move. I was in the same shoes about a year ago hoping they will come around and make the right decisions. It turns out they have no clue what they are doing. Their leadership simply doesn't understand today's market. The only way anything will change is when they almost go bankrupt and they have investors coming in exchanging all the management.

Torsten said "How is this coming along?". As usual, very, very slowly. Actually, from a users perspective nothing happened for the past 1+ years. Just curious how the exploring is going. It's recommend looking at something like the August lock that prompts for a code when asked to open. It also doesn't charge for the service.

It looks like there are a lot of customers here that would like to know where this is on the priority list for your group. To me the MyQ opener meets every other expectation I have of it. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Baffling that the single only thing I would want from Google integration, to open the door by voice is not available.  I had a dream about pulling up on my bike and saying 'open the pod bay doors', but that's at least temporarily dashed.  There is literally nothing else from Google home or IFTTT integration that I would use for free much less $10/yr.  This is bizarre!

I paid extra for the door opener with this functionality thinking that I could integrate it with my Google Home. What a disappointment. Definitely will not be paying for the subscription beyond the free trial period. A simple solution would be to just configure a passcode/phrase in the app and have Google Home prompt you "what's the password?" to open the door.

I also am going to cancel my subscription after the free trial.  I have no need to have my Google Home close my garage door.  My real need is to be able to open the door from my Google Home when my hands are full and I need it open as I go out of the house.  The subscription is worthless without the "open" function.  A ridiculous waste of money.

Add me to the long list of sorely disappointed users who just spent a bunch of money on a new garage door opener solely for the ability to say "hey Google, daddy's home" and build a custom routine to have that phrase triggering the command "tell myQ to open X garage".  Then, we learn that you have to pay to access Google Assistant.  Fine, $10/year.  Then, we're confused, and we start to think that maybe we also need the IFTTT integration.  Another $10/year, fine.  Then, we find this thread, get super disappointed, cancel the integration subscriptions, and think seriously about taking back the garage door motor that we purchased just to feel a little bit more like Tony Stark.  Bummer.  Big ole bummer.

Chamberlain/MyQ Dev Team, if you fix this, I'll make a professional video showing off the integration exactly as described above (pre-tears), and I'll send it to you for free use.

Make it happen Cap'n.

Just got my Chamberlain door installed today and find out I can integrate with Google Home, for a price? Even so, it won't even open the door if you tell it, for a price? Seriously, having to pay is bad enough, but to pay and not have the functionality it should of had for free is unforgivable. And when I say 'free' I mean after the damn $268 I paid for my door to begin with. Seriously, get your act together and stop milking new/paying customers of their hard earned cash.

It is somewhat understandable why Chamberlain doesn't allow a voice command to open the garage door.  Somebody screaming into the house could potentially open the garage, kids or the parrot could open it, etc.  That said, opening the garage door by voice is probably the main reason people will purchase the Chamberlain products.  Please make the open door command configurable and let the end user decide.

Not true no security concern if it is done right. All they have to do is authenticate your voice only or have an access pin. With a pin it is no less secure than your pin remote lol.

Funny: I just heard a radio ad for the Nissan Altima with Alexa integration that has a "skill" to start your car by providing a 4-digit PIN. https://www.nissanusa.com/connect/features-app/services-select/amazon-alexa
So... Alexa can start your car remotely but just can't open the garage door to let the exhaust out!

Rob, why so negative? They do allow you to close the garage door and it only costs $10/year. Oh, and they have a new feature where the garage door randomly opens. Basically, they do the same as some people do for lights, i.e. turn lights on randomly so thieves think somebody is at home. Chamberlain takes that to the next level by randomly open the garage door...;)

Seriously though, Chamberlain doesn't get it. People have been complaining about the lack of home automation integration for years. Finally they did come up with very limited functionality and on top of that they want to charge for it while pretty much everybody else understands that this must be a free integrated feature. I have some 50+ integrated devices in my home and none requires a monthly fee. Many of them are much more complex than a garage door opener that just needs open action, close action, status (opened, closed, opening, closing) and alert triggers.

People have been waiting for this for years and have been saying this on this forum. However, Chamberlain did nothing about it. Then maybe a year ago they announced a service at $1/month that is very secure and reliable but lacked the very basic function of opening the garage door. So don't hold your breath on this one.

As what I am concerned, I wouldn't even pay for a subscription if it allows me to open the garage door. I literarily have many dozens of home automation devices in my home and I keep on adding more. Imagine I had to pay even a small fee for each of those devices. Some of these devices consume a large amount of data, literarily MILLIONS of times more data and there is no monthly fee. Check if there are any third party solutions for whatever setup you have.
