Genie Openers Made 2016 or later

I just got off the phone with Chamberlain Tech Support, having spent around 75 minutes between being on hold and being assisted.  I have no complaints about the quality of the service, although I am highly frustrated with the result. I've tried posting, replying to similar posts, and emailing Chamberlain several times over the past few weeks and I have gotten no reply - as I see others have had similar issues.

Tech support told me that Genie Openers Made in 2016 or later are not compatible with and cannot be controlled by MyQ Garage.  It's not clear to me if it is all Genie models or just some, but mine is a Gene 3024 manufactured in 2016. Checking the compatibility chart today, for Genie it says "all garage door openers manufactured after 1996 (Intellicode 1 and Intellicode 2)." I could find no reference to any models not working, and despite several posts from others about problems with certain Genie openers, no replies from Chamberlain about this. They told me they would update the compatibility chart online, but since it isn't there now, I felt it vital to post as quickly as possible to help out others.

If you're in the return window and having a similar issue you may want to think about doing so before you window expires  Chamberlain told me that they could not take the product back directly if I'm not able to return it to where I bought it from. Otherwise, I recommend calling Chamberlain support and asking what they can do, but from my experience so far, it doesn't appear there's much besides encouraging me to take it back to where I got it from. I offered to return the product directly to them along with a sales receipt showing how much I paid for it, but they refused.

Many thanks for the post as I have spent over 3 hours trying to get MyQ to operate my Genie IntelliG 1000 (Model 3024).  MyQ does work with this model however I had to install a new motherboard which was updated to current year.  This must be why I can only use the system in "Monitor" mode only.  I wish the documentation was updated as it would had saved me many hours of frustration.

Just glad it could help save some additional frustrating hours.  I plan to follow-up with Genie if they don't update the online documentation soon.  Thankfully, even though I was outside the return window (by about 6 weeks) I was just informed that I can get a refund from the original place of purchase because of the inaccurate documentation, so I encourage all who may be having this issue to contact wherever they got it from and explain that the documentation said it would be compatible but it isn't.

I too am having issues connecting my Genie 2028 to the MyQ. Has there been a solution for this issue? Chamberlain hold times are ridiculous and the call back service didn’t work. No one called me back. Please help

Chamberlain Admin,

Any luck?  And when you say you're "looking into this," do you mean there's a fix (potentially) on the horizon, or that you'll officially recognize the issue, which may save others from the hours of frustration we've encountered, but won't help those of us who already have the incompatible devices in our homes.

I, too, have spent many hours over several weeks trying to get my Genie 3024 to work.  After dealing with several levels of your technical support (like atc123 said: all nice people, but no one aware of any fixes), I was sent a whole new unit, which doesn't work in a whole different way than the first one didn't work.   The new problem is just as the Genie 3024 owners here describe, though I'd be pretty shocked if Genie was manufactured later than 2015 (it came with a house I purchased in early 2016 and didn't appear to be brand new).  It's a big drag that the MyQ isn't compatible, but a much bigger drag that your support team aren't aware enough of the issue to have saved us all the many hours of frustration going in circles.    Please tell us there's a fix coming....

Hi Damian,

Thank for your honest feedback! We appreciate all the time you put into trying to get Genie's opener's to work with myQ.Unfortunately, because Genie has changed their openers (2016-present) they are no longer compatible with myQ garage/myQ Smart Garage Hub. If the serial number on your opener starts with 16, 17, or 18 it is too recent of a model number. We are aware that there are customers who are trying to connect newer openers with our myQ devices and we are always looking for ways to improve our products.

If your Genie opener has a manufactured date of 2015 and older, please don't hesitate to contact us at social@chamberlain.com with the subject line "myQ community. Genie-myQ- 'Your Name' " and someone will help you troubleshoot the issue.

I am also having the same issue with my Genie garage door opener.  Just installed everything and the app is not successful in learning how to open/close the door.  Very frustrating.

Hi Everyone,

In regards to the Genie 2028, you can set the door to be monitored only. Your hub will need to be online and the door sensor will need to be powered and in place, but it is quite possible to set it up to monitor only.

-          The hub will be added to Wi-Fi network

-          The sensor is installed per normal (top of the door)

-           Follow the steps to add a garage door opener, pairing the sensor per instruction

-          When you try to pair the opener it will be unsuccessful, at that point you can decline to add the opener and the door will be in monitor mode

We hope this helps.
