Garage door opening by itself. Woke up bright early morning few days ago and found garage door open. Family and I got really scared. Thank God, Every night I check the door leading to the garage is locked. And today, door is opening and closing incessantly. Had to pull the plug off and disconnect the backup battery to get it to stop. My son is in wheelchair and I need to use the garage door on a daily basis. Garage door opener was installed only a year and half ago. Will Chamberlain cover this under warranty ?. I have called the garage door technician that installed it to come and take a look tomorrow.

I do not have the phantom OPEN/CLOSE or OPEN issue.  I do have an issue when ever OPEN my garage, it will self close in < 1 min.  If I press the CONTROL BUTTON, it will close in < 1 min.  If I open from the keyless entry keypad, it will open.  If I disable the HOME BRIDGE, it works properly.  So, its not the TTC setting on my MyQ Control Panel.

Not having any luck with Chamberlin on feedback to fix.  Have sent 3 emails using their web support form and not even received a confirmation receipt from them.

Products:

- Home Bridge (819LMB)
- MyQ Control Panel (888LM)
- Craftsman garage door opener

Okay, next... also having issues.  Neighbor came over and said my garage door was open.  Had to manually shut it.  Wall panel not lite up and not working.  Thinking it was power issue but I hear the opener operating every now and then on its own.  Im the only one home. I've tried the link mentioned for replacement wall panel but it asks for login??  Whats the procedure to get a replacement wall switch?  Have to keep the door locked now and have to manually open and close the door.  What a pain.

Quick tip: you can remove the button panel leaving the 2 wires exposed... if you touch the wires together for a second it will operate the door. Bypasses the problem panel for a bit until you get the new panel and you don’t have to manually open and close the door

Same problem, we left home 8 in the morning, and my camera detected the garage opened itself 11, no one even touched. This is ridiculous.

Don’t know what model you have, but change the Wi-Fi IP address to your opener. If you don’t know how, then unplus your router and replug it and hope it got assigned another IP address. Let me know if it works. It’s been working so far for me. I have 8500w elite. LiftMaster.

Yep did that! They told me to buy a new unit as mine is an older unit. Even though this opener has done this since day 1.

Add another unsatisfied customer. My garage door started phantom opening 2 weeks ago and had randomly happened 5 times now. I’ve tried resetting all points and nothing has helped. Chamberlin, these company responses are far below acceptable and you’re getting hit heavy on social media and online reviews. You should escalate this immediately for remedy.

Have you changed your WiFi recently or power outage. Mine worked fine after I reassigned my IP address for the opener to an IP address that ended in a double digit vs .1

Thanks Mary - those events haven’t occurred and my address ends in a triple digit.

I would change it anyways to be sure. The other things I’ve done (I have the elite 8500) were setting the limits a little higher from the ground, so the door isn’t as flush to the ground. I was told that sometimes the door might fall and hit the ground thinking there was an obstacle and would lift up. If you have an older model, the door opener by your garage entrance door (wall mount) needs to be changed and people have contacted Chamberlain and has gotten it replaced. Hope this helps. I know how frustrating and scary it is. I have my alert on my iPhone to stay on all the time instead of temporary notification in case I miss it

I just replaced my old Chamberlain with the latest B970 model base on the praised internet review.  Installation was straight forward, no hiccup there for several weeks. I didn't have time to install the switch nor the remote keypad until 2 days ago.  Soon I install the wall switch, configured android with MyQ, the "phantom open" issue occurred. Yesterday, my garage opened and closed by itself, alarm company called and police dispatched, thanks to God that nothing bad happened. Me and my wife left work and raced home, I review my security cameras, I saw my garage opened and closed just right before the alarm company called.  No one at home and I don't think my Malty Poodle can open the garage.
Manufacturing date was Jan 2019.  Surprisingly, Chamberlain did not fix the known issues?
Unbelievable....!

Just searched the internet for this issue because not only has ours started this phantom opening and closing, it just happened at the exact moment my wife was backing out. Now the door is damaged, the car is damaged, the rails, etc.  I'm saving all this info and forwarding to my attorney... this apparently has been a known problem for a while and they did nothing.  Now significant damages are starting to happen... something has got to give.

Is this only occurring with wifi enabled? I was just going to set it up but now I'm not sure I should. I got this opener so I could be sure it was always closed. :(

No.  I can't speak for all phantom open/close issues, but for me and some others, the problem was the 888LM wall control.  Actually having the connection to the mobile app was a GOOD thing, because it alerted me to the fact that this was happening and gave me an audit trail as to how many times it had acted up.

As I said in another post, I have the 828LM Internet Gateway and NOT the newer WiFi  hub devices.  I think the 828LM works better for my situation because the gateway is connected via an ethernet cable to my home network and it communicates to the wall controllers using 900 MHz which performs better over long distances (and likely has less interference) than 2.4GHz which I believe is used by the WiFi (hard to tell since there "Specs" section actually contains ZERO specifications.
