Duplicate Alert Notifications

I have an alert set up to send me a notification each time the door is opened or closed. However, during each event I get duplicate notifications. For example, when the door is opened I get a push notification that it's open, but a few seconds later I get a second push notification that it's open. The same happens for when it's closed I get one and then a few seconds later I get a second.

Additionally, often when I'm clearing notifications even hours later the notifications will re-pop up or re-alert me as I clear them even though the garage door has been opened or closed hours before.

It's not a huge problem it's just kind of an annoyance and I was wondering if it's something that I did during setting up I only have one rule but it appears to be creating these multiple notifications. I've even deleted the rule and re-created it and continue getting the same result.

Just for information, I am on an iPhone 6, iOS 9 Beta 5.

Hi Scott. I agree, receiving multiple alerts can become kind of bothersome. I understand that you have already deleted and recreated the rule, could you try that step again, but this time after deleting the rule uninstall the app then reinstall the app, then recreate the rule. If that does not work for you, please email your username email so I can take a look at it on our end. My email is MyQCommunity@Chamberlain.com

Scott - Were you getting duplicate alerts previous to adding MyQ to the Apple watch?

The ONLY duplicate alerts I get on my phone or Apple Watch are from Chamberlain. That said, I believe that the question is YES. I have always gotten duplicate alerts on the phone even before the watch was added.  Interestingly, I turned off alerts over the weekend (to save my sanity as we were in and out) and when i reviewed my phone notifications screen I had a number from Thursday and Friday... When I went to clear them from notifications on Sunday - remember alerts were off, they just started popping up again... once and over with the times and dates of the original alerts that I was mass clearing from the notifications screen... Once the phone was done clearing and re-clearing and re-clearing, they popped up on the watch to clear... Not as bad, but they were still there. Again ,this was even when alerts had been turned off previously, I was just clearing old alerts.  I did not and have not received any new alerts as I have not re-activated them yet...

Scott - The reason i asked is that, at this time MyQ is not compatible to the Apple Watch. I know you have it up and running, but I wanted to see if maybe the addition of the Apple Watch caused the issue to begin with.

Let's try something on the phone. Let's delete the alerts. Delete and reinstall the app. Then, I would like you to hold off adding the alerts back for 24 hours. This will reset your account, make sure that any old alerts are cleared out. I would like to see what happens at that point.

Will do, and I will remove the Apple Watch notifications for MyQ. I'll let you know.  I hope that your team is working on HomeKit upgrades. You have a lot of restless folks here. I am positive and confident that things will work out well, but with iOS 9 launching many are anticipating an app update to get this rolling...

Thanks for trying that, Scott. Let me know how it goes.

As far as HomeKit, it's in the works. I wish I had more information than that, believe me.

Dawn,

I removed the Watch notifications and deleted the rule, deleted the app, re-installed the app and waited 48 hrs to clear the system before adding a rule.
Sadly, I still get duplicate alerts for the opens and closes. However, on a positive note I typically only get 2 now opposed to multiples and multiples. I still have an occasion where when I clear and alert I'll get a secondary alert but only if I have included a previous one So think of it this way the garage door was opened up at 3 PM and I receive the alerts but I didn't clear them then at 7 PM the garage door was open up again I receive those two alerts when I go to clear them I'll get a pop up for the 3 PM Alerts one more time. Once everything is cleared no weather alerts come in I hope that makes sense and I hope it helps you guys continue to troubleshoot.

Hi Scott, I am sorry to hear you are still receiving duplicate alerts. I would like you to try one more thing for me if you don't mind. Can you please delete your alerts, your garage door and your MyQ Garage off your account, then completely delete your MyQ account altogether. Recreate the account using the same email address if you would like and add your MyQ Garage and garage door opener back on. Then recreate your alerts. Please let me know if this works for you.

@Ethan - It was better after I turned off the Apple Watch Notifications. But, it was still there. I removed all alerts, reset the account. Everything Chamberlain n support asked, it was better, but I still got duplicates. For me though, I also have a Wink hub that I paired the MyQ with and I am now leveraging the notifications through Wink opposed to directly through Chamberlin... , I fixed it that way, but not through chamberlain sorry.

Ethan, what iOS are you running, or are you even on an Apple device?  Scott mentioned 9 Beta 5, I wonder if it has anything to do with it being a prerelease iOS.  I've seen the double alert before, but just once and I was on the normal release of 9.0.1, or something there about, at the time.

Scott, as a man with a iPhone 6 and Apple Watch, can I assume you have an old iPhone laying about the house somewhere that you could power on as WiFi only, install the app and see if it gets 2x notifications?  It would be worth testing to see if:
  1. Does the old phone get 2 alerts when your 6 does?
  2. If so, does the old phone have the same iOS release installed?  If not, can you upgrade to the same release and see if the issue appears or not?
  3. Does the Apple Watch paired with the old phone produce 2 alerts and unpairing it from the 6 fix the issue there (its unlikely but worth testing)?

I am on IOS 9.1 with my apple watch but this has been happening on IOS 9.0.x as well. my wife (also on IOS 9.1) has the same issue with no apple apple watch attached to her phone. this honestly sounds like a back end issue at chamerlain as they are generating multiple push notifications for some reason.  @scott do you have more than 1 garage door? my set up is 2 doors, each with their own transponder and set up as independent devices. both door create duplicate notifications.

@Ethan I do have an old phone or two, but have not had time to test some of your ideas. I only have one opener. I will say that Dawn (Chamberlain) did advise me that they currently do not have Watch compatibility and things got better when I pulled the notifications from the Watch, but I still got duplicates, but the 9 or 10 repeat notifications when I tried to dismiss from the Watch at least went away.

Unpairing and re-pairing has no effect still receive multiples. Complete wipe of each setup as new doesn't correct. I'll test on a 4, 5, 5S that I have and one of my iPads just for giggles.

For my 6, I am on 9.2 B3 now, and will try opening up the notifications again to see if the update to 9.2 helped. As I mentioned I have multiple home automation systems here so I moved the alert notifications to my Wink hub and poof only one... I feel that it is more in Chamberlain's code for notifications in the app that is causing the issues. Originally, I thought back end too. I don't get multiples of any other notifications from any other app even if they stay in my notifications pane on my phone for days... That has not been the case for Chamberlain. Even when I have fought with the ones on my phone and watch to dismiss. If any are a day or two old, but still in the Notification Pane on the phone when I go to clear them, the whole nasty process starts again...

I had same issue...7 emails and 7 push notifications per up/down cycle. FIX...upper left corner of app push "Places"...go down 3 to "Rules" and open. You will be greeted with all the rules you didn't know you created (I had 7). Delete all but one rule by holding the arrow on the far right until the delete/edit prompt appears and start getting rid of unwanted email makers. When you are down to one rule open push arrow again and go to edit to make sure it is as you want it. I renamed mine "One Alert... Finally"...hope this helps. Bill

Initial setup of MyQ Internet Connectivity Kit experienced the duplicate open and closing in history and email alerts.  After playing with the app, I found that I had created duplicate rules.
After eliminating the extra rule, that appears to have solved the problem.
