Close Error - Too Many Attempts! - Persistent/Recurring Error with MyQ Internet Connectivity Kit

We've utilized the MyQ Internet Connectivity Kit for over a year now without issue but recently we started getting the "Close Error - Too many attempts" error message when trying to close the door using the phone app. Closing using the remote in the car or the MyQ wall control works just fine. As noted by many others on this site (some as recent as 2 days ago and others over 2 years ago) this seems to be a common and recurring problem that has yet to be fixed.

I've attempted a hard reset of the internet gateway and pairing it again with MyQ wall control and the issue briefly went away for 2 days before resurfacing.

This needs to be fixed; the unreliability is rendering the system useless when we actually need it!

I just want to share that after using the app successfully for many months, I too started getting the close error message. In searching the Internet, I too seen threads from 2 years ago with the same concern.

It seems to have something to do with breaking the beam on the safety sensors and trying to close the door on a WiFi connection. I saw this in an old thread and was able to duplicate it so now I know it is caused by breaking the safety beam with my car when I back out and trying to close the door with the app while on WiFi. I'm pretty sure that if I shut WiFi off before opening the app, I don't get the close error. Try testing that and see if your does the same.

I just purchased one. After getting it setup and working. I tested it a few times. Now it too is stuck on close error, too many failed attempts. Using manual controls doesn't reset anything. Help!

Carrie, a common cause of this issue is that the obstruction sensors are blocked for more than 4 seconds. When this condition occurs, it makes the system think that there is a consistent blockage and door needs to manually operate to overcome the issue.

The other potential cause is that the obstruction sensor is being tripped while the MyQ system still thinks the door open/close is in progress.

Tech support is working to overcome these issues, but in the mean time:

1. wait until the app says door open before entering/exiting the garage
2. enter/exit the garage in less than 4 seconds

@MyQ Community Manager re: "Tech Support is working to overcome these issues" ... I've seen the same reply on other similar threads now. Seem like this issue has been worked on for a very long time and still unresolved. Is the 4 seconds arbitrary? Can this be made configurable?

Thank you. I re-setup the hub and opener, and using your tips, it is working consistently now!
