Charging for IFTTT? You should be ashamed!

Why the charge for IFTTT?  Other brands don't.  Sad companies feel they have to have this add-on fee to really use their products fully.

Unlike Amazon, Chamberlain either does not understand or does not value customer satisfaction.  Chamberlain would prefer to rake in a few dollars in exchange for being a pariah.

Or perhaps Chamberlain simply lacks the technical skills to fully integrate smart home capabilities like Alexa into its products.

Agreed. It’s ridiculous. Their service/product lacks functionality so they piggy-back on a third party then charge extra to use an otherwise free service? Terrible

Don’t be fooled by that! It’s not even complete control you get for that fee. It turns out that even if you pay the fee, you’re not given real, full control over your device through IFTTT or Alexa, Google Home, etc. Unlike what you would expect, even with a paid integration, you won’t even be able to do anything but ask if the garage door is open and close it if it is.

Amazingly, Chamberlain has decided that it’s too much of a security risk to let you decide when and how you want to open your own garage door with their technology, and you can’t use an open command in any of the services you have to pay to integrate. I briefly paid the fee to incorporate my service with Google Home (so I could open and close my garage with a voice command from my living room - where I can SEE IT), but when I learned I could only use it to close my garage (which, of course, is normally closed most of the time already), I canceled that subscription immediately.

You are right! I’m not willing to give them a penny more! Might be only $10/year, but it is the principle of charging anything for Ifttt intergration. Reflects badly on this company to charge for this! Pushes customers away from their products and not towards them!

David, Chamberlain is a hopeless company. They will get their "Kodak moment", i.e. totally missing what the market demands and.... Go check where Kodak is these days...

Btw, John is completely right, they don't even get the most basic stuff right and they charge for it. Basic things like status, opening, closing, alarm, etc. absolutely must be free. I have given up on them and won't pay them a single cent. Not because I couldn't afford it but because it's just plain wrong paying for something like this.
