These companies will make some money off the very rich who don't have time to research other options, or buy the products from installers who assure them that they are getting the best. It is a good market. But for the DIY-er and savvy customer, they will lose market share and ruin their reputation and eventually suffer from the greed.

It is understandable for a company to charge for something that costs them money, like hosting servers and such. But when they charge for a pass through connection to a service, or take advantage of complexity and lack of understanding to take money from the ignorant (not stupid, just unaware) they will eventually suffer from that lack of ethics and the unbridled greed.

It would also be less frustrating and less obnoxious if they offered a premium product that was worthy of the extra fees. But our system hasn't worked for more time than it has worked, we have to use our Genie remotes because the chamberlain app has quit working so many times and become so unreliable, eventually just quitting.

I know that my personal experience has led me to avoid Chamberlain in the future, and I am what is commonly known as a trend setter or early adopter and I tend to be the person my friends ask for advice on technology. I've sold MANY a computer or other technology to my friends.  It is safe to say that I haven't sold any Chamberlain garage door openers and technology. Why would I ruin my reputation with my friends and bring tons of headaches and troubleshooting into my life by doing that?

I don't know if Chamberlain gets it or not, but people like us are the leading edge sales people for their product, and their blatant disregard has hurt them unbelievably over the last decade.
