Add other users to MyQ Account

Why in this day and age is this feature not here yet?

We need the ability to add users to our MyQ accounts.

Like A Wife, Husband, Kid, Roommate, Relative, etc....

Multiple people live in my house and should be able to open the door from their phones.

I am not the only person who needs this.

I should not have to share my account with others.  That is a bad security practice and doesn't allow for tracking of who is actually opening and closing the door and when.

Get with the times and add this feature already.....  Even Wink lets you share your light bulbs with other users for crying out loud...

For goodness sake... Chamberlain is a Wink partner and vice versa. I am an app developer myself and I don't expect a garage door company to be experts on apps... so I simply don't use their app. They are officially compatible with Wink and the Wink app is much more thorough with support for 'bots' and more. If you pretended there was no myQ app you'd be all set. You don't need it. Just the free Wink app.

Chamberlain and Smart Things also announced a "partnership" as well.  A year (+/-) went by and when Chamberlain didn't release the promised official API, the Smart Thing community took it upon themselves to program it.

Chamebrlain found out about it and shut it down. Disconnected all the users without so much as a warning!!!

Fast forward ANOTHER year and there is still no official Smart Things + Chamberlain garage door integration.

So hows THAT for customer service?

Todd, if a company produces an app, tells their customers to use it, tells them they are making improvements to it....then I expect them to know apps or have a company they have partnered with to write the app to know about them. Also, if a company leaves a vacuum and refuses to fill it, then a third party fills the gap..... DO NOT shut them down....they were doing what you refused to do and your customers were asking for.

If Chamberlain doesnt want to do an app, thats fine, simply say.... our products are WINK compatible, partner up, and put a link on your website and be done.....

Development dates my slide and I do not want to provide you with incorrect information. Early 2017 (Q1-Q2) is the best I can do for now as far as a timeline goes.

Smart Things
Chamberlain was experiencing an unprecedented load on our platform caused by the community-built MyQ Connect SmartApp. This SmartApp relied upon a private API that is not officially supported by us. As a result, we informed SmartThings that they needed to shut down the IP address used by this SmartApp due to the issues impacting our infrastructure.

Restoring Smart Things integration is a big priority for Chamberlain in 2017.

Apparently another priority for Chamberlain in 2017 is engaging with the users/customers! Thank you. I hope Chamberlain continues to keep us informed and answer our questions and concerns.

re: SmartThings:
Whoever made this decision lacks foresight and leadership expertise to understand this this is a big opportunity and gift that your community has given you. Instead of shutting them down why not support them by upgrading your infrastructure in the short term until you had real support. The data the community was telling you was that they really wanted to use SmartThings with your product - a value add for your customers, instead you punish them for doing your work for you.
Your customers become users of the MyQ platform whether you support it or not you are selling your product and pushing your users to use this this API - you are therefore responsible for it whether official or not.

And how is this "Early 2017" "Q1/Q2 2017" delivery date for multiple users working out here?  The community should maybe revisit the resume of whomever is managing this product roadmap... so incredibly lame and I will actually encourage our 2 different HOAs (2400 homeowners in Northern California; 5200 homeowners in Phoenix) to evaluate other brands.

I can't believe that this was overlooked when the product was introduced, let alone that that you hide the info unless customers really search for it.  Now I know why I received an error message when trying to add my wife to the app.  I guess it really is pretty embarassing to make such an oversight.  Please get your act together soon!!!!  Sure am glad I wasn't the one to start this thread over a year ago.  Thanks!

Thanks everyone for keeping the fire burning on this issue. It is also good to see the support from Amazon Customers. However, I recently made a decision to take down the MyQ Chamberlain and replace it with Nexx Garage Door Opener; which provides the multiple users feature I desperately needed. I purchased the  MyQ Garage Door on Amazon back in March 2016 and reported this issue immediately after my purchase.  I believe little over a year is more than enough time to address this issue. Especially, when their are similar products on the market that already provide this feature. If you have a moment check out the Nexx Garage Door Opener and see if it is a good fit and thanks again for your support.

They won't do it because it will kill their brand as a user friendly IoT device thus prompting customers to look elsewhere. And existing customers as pissed off as we can be. Come on, existing customers, let's make some noise!

I give you guys credit.  We've been fighting this fight for how long now and you all keep going? You all have my respect.  I just said "F***k it" they don't care, they don't listen, I will never buy another chamberlin product again in my life.
Heck, sometimes I sit at my local home depot and if I see someone with one of the garage door openers in the cart or, even looking at them, I steer them right away to the Ryobi.
I keep praying that someday soon my Garage Door opener will fail so I can get away from this horrible company.

But, I really do appreciate you all making "noise".  When I get the Email notifications that a new comment has been posted here, I get angry all over again.

The issue is that you would not only have to reverse engineer their protocol but either modify the firmware in the Chamberlain myQ hub at your house to connect to a 3rd party server directly or fake it in your router via DNS reroute. This might be a high enough entry price for your average user to avoid this solution.

The other way to actually do it would be via their own API which would require a third party that would take your Chamberlain access and put their own user access setup on top of it. The only caveat with this solution would be the fact that you would have to trust this third party with your myQ access and I'm not sure if anyone is into this.

I'd also say that official use of their API has some weird contractual limitation thanks to their lawyers where they can't send automated triggers to the API, they have to come from a user actually wanting to open a door via a soft button of some sort. This might not be a problem for strictly user access type app but for home automation it is an assinine and lame requirement that hinders home automation tremendously.

Being short staffed in their software engineering department (It's probably Bob from high school writing the app single handedly) and having a monstrous legal department with zero understanding of any technical knowledge is the perfect storm for a shitty product.

I would agree to implement what the customers want would be nice instead of having them reverse engineer the product. I wish I could change the beeping and flashing of the lights when I close the door with the application but would rather have multi-account support over that. Even open sourcing the code to the controller/repeater would be nice.

It's might be easier to buy a new garage door opener button, wire it up and make your own service that "presses" the button for you. Using Magnet switches to identify door state. Rather than try to figure out the command codes.

Looks like they got another one!!  I don't mean to make light of your situation because we are all in the same boat so to speak.  No one finds out about these limitations until you've got the garage door opener installed and set up.  It's kind of like a "gotcha".  Because now that it's up and installed, what are you really going to do?  Take it down and return it?  Nope.  It's there now.  They got your $ and you can't do anything about it except come here and rant and rave about it, like the rest of us have been doing.  It's sad and unfortunate.

Is Chamberlain trying to put a man on the moon? What gives? I'm not completely convinced that this is rocket science we're asking for.
1) WE NEED MULTI-USER FUNCTIONALITY
2) A way to choose an App notification instead of the App using the Android default one. Because right now, any time my AHL team and their opponent scores in a game, I think my garage door just opened. Grrrrrrrr. And that AHL is a real piece of work already, I'm not asking them for this functionality... They're about as bad as Chamberlain

But please focus on 1)

Your laugh for this afternoon:
Chamberlain is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Duchossios Group. Here is their corporate philosophy.
  1.  The customer is the most important person in our business.
  2. The customer is not dependent on us; we are dependent on the customer.
  3. The customer is not an interruption of our work; the customer is the purpose of it.
  4. The customer does us a favor by calling us; we are not doing the customer a favor by serving them.
  5. The customer is part of our business—not an outsider.
  6. The customer is not a cold statistic; customers have feelings and emotions like our own.
  7. The customer has certain expectations; it is our job to fill those expectations.
  8. The customer is deserving of our most courteous and attentive treatment.
  9. Our customer makes it possible to pay our salary.

HOLY COW. What is wrong with Chamberlain??????

Everything in my house is connected. My washer, refrigerator, thermostat, lights, KIDS TOYS(!), but not my expensive new Chamberlain MyQ garage door openers! Oh, sure, I love the auto-close and being able to see door status from my phone, but that's about all there is.

Seriously, there are amateurs out there throwing together home automation interfaces using $2 eBay boards and batteries, but Chamberlain, with who knows how much resource dollars at their disposal, can't do any better than "you can open and close the door from your phone"??? HIRE SOME UNEMPLOYED PROGRAMMERS and fulfill your promises! This is not rocket science. Hardware interface seems to be complete. Now how about hiring a couple APP DEVS and letting them start work? After the MyQ fiasco, it's not like you have to worry about maintaining your reputation.

In the same boat as everyone else here. Multiple users and better control is desperatly needed. I have a commercial gate and a commercial door that run on the myq system. One person i want to have control of te gate and not control of the door, another person the opposite. Instead, i come home to my door being open by accident and the operator of the gate unaware that this has happened. So i look at dialing in the control a bit more and there is no option and chamberlain has obviously said piss on that and are doing nothing to fix. I suspect they are working on an entirly new system and will release it as an upgrade we will have to buy. Instead, i think we should look at creating our own workaround. An Arduino and some tinkering should provide the possibility to do what is needed. Has anyone looked into this? If i find any workaround i will post it here along with instructions.

this has been ongoing for over 2 years - it will never happen - I am sure 5 years from now they will either not sell garage doors because they will be the equivalent of buggy whip manufacturers or they will make a new model that people can spend money on to get features they should have had from the beginning

Mandi.... More than one person can use this.... You just have to give them the username and password on the account and they get all the exact alerts and functionality that you do, just can't "pick and choose" on any of the additional app installs. It's all or nothing... Everyone gets the same notification, or email, or whatever alert you desire, across the group.
