888LM wall unit internal short causing phantom open of garage door

I have 2 Liftmaster openers and 2 wall units. Both were installed a couple of years ago and worked great until this week.

One of the 888LM wall units opened one of the doors at 5am scaring the daylights out of us. The light on the wall unit was red. I have removed the wall unit and can operate the door by touching the wires together to open and close it but I'm not sure what to do about the wall unit.

Should I buy a replacement and hope it doesn't happen again?

A phantom opening would be horrible if nobody was home. I have too much in my garage that I want to protect. The solid locking mechanism of the Liftmaster was one of the selling points for security.

A garage door that randomly opens is a scary thing.

Did you get a reply to your post?  I had a similar problem - garage door opened at 3am.  My 8500 is signaling opener short.

No, but I bought a new wall unit on Amazon and things have been 100% functional with no phantom openings since then. I think it's just a bad design that if it shorts internally it opens the door. So now we lock the interior door to the house.
