I replaced the two year old 888LM wall console with a new one. The system is working again. This forum is useless in my opinion.

Agree 100%, but this is the case with almost any company that uses get satisfaction as a support platform. Strange how my internet gateway fell offline 15 days ago also. Looks like fu&kery on their part.
And the "customer service will contact you" is so useless it is painful. Post a process to try and get feedback.

I unhooked the unit from the wall, unplugged the network bridge, unplugged the opener - then reconnected everything and it started working again -  no thanks to MyQ support.  They know there is an issue, they just don't want to publicly address it.... sounds a little fishy to me.

only last 1 hour - now blinking and beeping again - disconnected bridge / internet - still does it - use the remote on my truck to open - frustrating.  Is it a bad panel / switch?

I am having the same issue. This is with a replacement untie I received from Chamberlain. The unit goes through the set up with quick flashing red and yellow LED lights. It then goes to slightly slower flashing LED red and yellow lights followed by a beep and repeats itself. Please help!! This is extremely frustrating. I also did send an email to the customer rep with no reply.

My garage door opened by itself today and since then led and orange light constantly blinking on the opener.

I went on a trip 1 hour away and found out my garage door was opened from my neighbor.  I drove home and found the same issue.  Red and yellow light blinking.    Can someone please contact me as well as I just learned this is a known issue.

I have the exact same problem.  I just called MyQ and they said to unplug my controller.  Why can't a customer service rep post the troubleshooting. 

Just after removing the controller from power, the red light kept blinking.  So I assume a battery must be in the controller.  Do these batteries go bad?

After waiting a few minutes, the blinking stopped.  I then replugged the device in and I have the same problem.  I was told be a rep there are no replaceable parts so I must buy another.  It is a shame that the item lasted just less than 5 years.

After reading the troubleshooting  steps, it was clear the control panel was bad with constant red/yellow light blinking and it auto opened my garage door after 5 min.

Very quick response here as well and my unit is being replaced.  Thanks!!

I replaced the wall unit with a new one and it is still flashing yellow and red and making the beeping noise. I've disconnected everything from power and it is still beeping and flashing yellow and red

I am having the same problem with the lights flashing & the beeping. I have tried unpugging, disconnecting the wires, re connecting the wires then re connecting the power, but the problem persists!

Is there a solution? Mine started the beeping and flashing a few days ago. Unplugged the main unit to get it to stop. Resumed upon plugging the unit back in.

I have two 888LMs, one was flashing both red and yellow and beeping intermittently.  The 88LMs were temperarily swapped and the 888LMs and the problem stayed on the same door.  From that I concluded the problem is with the door opener.  I pushed the Learn button on the opener, waited 10 seconds and pushed to button on a remote for that door.  The flashing stopped and the system appears to be back to normal.  Just completed this 15 minutes ago so no idea of how long it will work or what caused the problem.

Hi Ken, we are aware that some users have experienced issues with MyQ Control Panels (888LM) manufactured prior to July 2015. We have since identified a capacitor issue which may cause individual control panels to act irregularly or stop functioning.

That wire may be the issue. Bell wire is recommended. Make sure none of the wire is touching any of the surrounding solder points around the screws.

Did this work for you? I just got new unused liftmaster myq garage door opener and my q 888lm wall controller finally installed today and can open with remote that came with opener but wall unit flashes red and yellow and beeps non-stop and will not do anything at all ☹

I have the same problem and have tried all the suggested fixes with not luck.  Guess I will have to buy another one.  Had to replace one on another door a few month ago and now having trouble with the one on my shop door which doesn't get used very often.  Payed a premium price for these shaft mounted openers.  Have had them for 4 years and have already replace the motor and wall control panel on the garage and now the control panel on the shop.  Should have stayed with my chain driven unit that I had for a very long time with absolutely no problems.

I own 7 liftmaster openers. This is our second 888LM to go bad within a year. At $40 each they aren't cheep.

I solved mine.  I was told by customer support that this happens when the voltage is too low to the unit.  In my case one of the wires going into the control board of the motor was no longer secure.  Unplugged motor, secured wire and plugged back in and now it works.  I was told to check the voltage to the 888LM and i thought he said 20-22 Volts for my opener.   In addition to lose wires, it could be a bad wire or a bad board causing the 888LM to not get enough juice.

Yesterday, I walked into my shop though the man door past the 888lm and I believe as soon as the motion detector detected me, the door opened approximately 1 foot then stopped.  At that point, the 888lm was flashing red and orange and the door is unresponsive.  I had to pull the rope to disconnect the door to get it to shut.  I power cycled the opener but no change...  Is there a reset procedure or something I can do to resolve this?

Go to page 5 of this thread.  There is an explanation with photos.  There are 2 capacitors on the control board that need to be replaced.

I have the same issue.  Red and orange flashing lights and beeping every three minutes.  I have two doors and already had to replace the other 888LM controller about a year ago.  This doesn't seem right especially with all of the complaints.  I'm not going to replace capacitors....  Hello Chamberlain??????!

I've changed the two capacitors, a week now and so far so good. The locking mechanism also failed on me, had to open it and fix it myself. I've emailed Chamberlain twice with no response. I liked these garage doors openers, until now. Every having these two issues should write a review. Customer service is horrible.

I've had exactly the same problem and tried to diagnose it thru the manuals.  There isn't anything out there that I can find other than this chat series that leads me to believe the 888LM had died.  Can you send me a replacement?

I just had Garage door installer out today from Des Moines Iowa. They said these are all failing and this is about all they get done right now is replacing these at $45 each? They said 2013-2015 models are all failing and Liftmaster the Manfacturer won't do anything about it but sell you new replacements??? Anyone find a solution or get help with this?

Yes. Find someone who knows how to solder and replace the $2 part. Lots of info on this thread and videos. Start from the beginning. Hope it works out for you

Open a support case, they'll send a replacement 888LM.  I just called yesterday, they said it is an open and shut case. 800-528-9131.

A couple years ago my 888LM MyQ control panel red and yellow lights started blinking for 20 seconds followed by three quick beeps during which time none of the buttons on the control panel work and the garage door cannot be opened.  After 5 seconds this process may start all over.  This occurs randomly throughout the day and night but seems to occur more often at night.  The beeping gets real annoying and the only way I know to stop it is to unplug the garage door opener.  It appears the only solution for me is to replace the control panel.  I will try opening a support case to see if a replacement can be sent.

If anyone’s having this issue try this:

Unplug the opener for 10 minutes . Then plug it back in for another 10. You may have to try this twice

I have been having the same problem intermittently since I got this opener. Today I am trying to program a remote and the learn function will not help ...then panel will beep and beep and been. Then will stop and function normally for a while. But I can't get learn function to help..

How can i fix this?

I guessed it is a common problem with that unit, I had that problem too opening by itself in the middle of the night. What I did, because the line going from the control unit to the main unit is not shielded and acts like an antenna it picks up RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) that interfere with that unit, coming from inside the house or outside as well, like WiFi, cell phone, microwave, electronic remotes, etc,; so I installed a RFI filter on the wires hooked up to the 888LM, so far it seems to be working fine. That filter should have been built up into the unit by the manufacturer.

Red and yellow lights continue to beep and wall opener does not work but opener in car works. Had to disconnect the wires to stop the beeping.

I seem to have the same issue but I’ve already changed out the pad and it still has issues. The door open and closeses at will. The door may open half way the close or close half way and open. This is very frustrating and a security risk.

I have three of these 888lm units. Only one of them randomly beeps. It will go for about a day or two and beep three rapid times and both the yellow and res lights blink constantly. You cannot use the pad to open or close the door. You have to use the remote in the car to use the door. This will eventually stop after a couple of days and it is annoying if you are in the garage. The other two units have never done it.

I changed out touchpads again and removed the bulbs in the opener and it seems to have resolved the issue.

Search the forum.  There is a simple fix.  About $3 to replace the 2 bad capacitors on the circuit board.

Here is how I solved the problem. I unplugged the main unit and the 888lm still had power. I then unscrewed the unit from the wall and unhooked the red and white wires. Still power but no apparent battery. I then pushed buttons for about a minute and power finally went out. I then reattached red and white wires, screwed unit back on wall and then plugged in main unit. The red and yellow lights stopped blinking, no more chirps and the unit seems to be working fine.

This is happening to me as well.  It just started,I've tried all the things listed in this issue.  Some work, but none for more than a couple of uses.  I'm in the process of selling my house, so this is NOT a good look for the house.

I'm having same issue.  Constant beeping with red and yellow light flashing.  I sent them a video of the issue.  They viewed it and immediately recognized the issue.  They resolved it immediately and are sending me a replacement.  Has something to do with controllers built within a certain time range.  They should be able to assess and quickly resolve.  Good customer service on their part!

An issue with certain MQ control pads.  They will send you a new pad if they diagnose the same issue.  Send them a link to a video so they can quickly diagnose without all the verbal explanation required.  My support rep was a gentleman named Jonathan.  Solid customer service from him.

I have the same problem. My photo also looks the same. I sent an email via the website yesterday (Saturday). Hopefully, I'll get a rep contacting me on Monday. I have no gateway, and no battery backup. So, those complications don't exist for me!

I called the 800 number and they told me to buy a new one.  Clearly the product is faulty.  Lame.  I sent an e-mail to customer service and they didn't even respond.  Poor service and won't back their mistake.

Mine was doing this due to the gateway being offline.

Here is how I fixed mine:

Unhook the gateway, power and network.

Using a paper clip press the small button on the side, power on and hold for 10 seconds.

Power cycle again.

Hub should get back online.

---

Unhook the 888lm, top screw take out, unit slides upward if you forgot (I did).

I hook wires, press buttons on the 888lm to "bleed down" any capacitors.

Hook it back up, test that it works from the button.

---

This fixed mine, and it's been operation for a week.

Side note: I continue to get phantom open notices on the iPhone app, but not sure if those were not logged when the gateway was having an issue.


Hope this works!

And this site is riddled with tracking code, getsatisfaction is the backend, and when I block all that garbage, it's impossible to login...so on mobile.

I have the same problem with the red and yellow lights blinking, the endless chirping, the light turning on, as well as the phantom open notices on my iPhone. It really is a disappointment when literally everything that can fail is falling; you almost have to go out of your way to design it to work this way.

As for any "fixes," the one about basically unplugging it and plugging it back in lasts no more than 36 hours, and instead of hearing an official solution on the public forum where we have been sent we instead see that individuals are being directed to their emails for top secret solutiond that probably don't exist.

We replaced the controller on our Liftmaster Elite Series, model 3800PC opener with the 888LM as recommended by our local dealer. I'm having some trouble with the controller. The door is randomly opening and closing. It was open about a foot when I was leaving yesterday for work. I closed it with the remote but then sometime during the day it opened all the way up. I couldn't close it with the remote or the controller. About an hour later I looked out and it was down to about a foot from being closed. I closed it the rest of the way with the remote. The controller button seemed to work then but the 'learn' button was flashing as well as the command light. It also beeped at some point after we left it alone. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Why is no solution to this issue posted by the company?  I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to get this resolved.  If this is a unit failure it is a poor design.

I'm having exactly the same issue others here describe. It's intermittent, but very problematic for me. The yellow and red lights flash, it beeps every few seconds, and the door becomes inoperable through the panel. The white light on the door button goes dark. This can last for hours, while the unit sends me multiple messages saying the door has been closed every few minutes. No open messages, just closed. Sometimes opening and closing the door from my car fixes it for a while. Sometimes not.

My fix was to replace the 888LM and the problem went away.  I then repaired my 888LM door opener by replacing the two capacitors in the remote and tested. I have now repaired a couple of these remotes and all are still working. I don't recommend repairing them if you don't know how to use a soldering iron.

@nelson, thanks for sharing the solution. My door opener is more than one year old and will not be fixed by myQ folks. I'll try out your solution.

LiftMaster doesn't want to tell you that there is a battery in the 888LM...they dont want you to know the battery isn't replaceable. Replacing the wall station is the only solution as the battery becomes depleted. The if you need the wall station to work before replacement, unhook wires from station and jump them together. These wires provide low voltage to wall station 21vdc or so...safe to touch them together and not get shocked. Hope this helps

My 888LM randomly opened and closed the door at least 30 times @ 5:00 am this morning on its own, it woke up the whole family, probably ruined my openers gears, I had to move the car out, pull the plug out of the receptacle to stop it.  Thanks Liftmaster for my security, now panel is blinking Red and Yellow....
