I’m having the same problem with the red and yellow lights and beeping. If I unplug it for a day it will work for a couple days then goes back. Is there any other solution besides buying another control panel?

I guess I am the nth person who has this issue with the panel randomly beeping with flashing yellow red lights. Could someone at LiftMaster/Chamberlain offer some assistance? I have tried draining power and reseeding the wires, per another user who posted.

This just started happening to me today. Even after I disconnected the two wires, the unit emitted a high pitched squeal.  I contacted Liftmaster customer service via chat and this is what Nicky B. said, "Yes this is being sent under warranty. We had a bad batch so even though warranty is only for a year with this being a manufactures defect we will take care of replacing the items needed. The confirmation number for your 888LM is 1000xxxxxx . You will receive within 7 business days."

I have had my unit for four years, but they are covering it because it was part of a defective batch.  It can't hurt to give them your production date and serial number.  There is a decent chance it will still be covered under warranty.

If all else fails, you can replace the two capacitors on the control module board.  Good luck!

This started happening to ours last Saturday (10/27).  The only way to avoid going crazy from the beeping is to unplug the opener.  Right now the only way to use the garage is manual open/close.  And that is getting old.  This started about a month after the power door lock failed. I have an 8500.  Could support please help?  Thank you.

Do I still need to email social@chamberlain.com?

Thanks!

If you are having the issue with the red and yellow flashing lights, they'll replace the 888LM.  I opened a case on 11/4, they sent me a replacement that arrived on 11/8.  I swapped it out and my 8500 works again.

Open a support case, call 800-528-9131.  Or open the ticket online.

Thanks so much for this forum and information.  I called this morning after reading through the posts and Xavier in customer service helped me out.  Our 888 LM went out last night and after a few questions this AM with him he is sending a new unit.   Amen for the internet and people who take the time to trouble shoot these issues.

Thanks again to everyone here and Chamberlain for stepping up.

BTW...Glad it was figured out that you can just touch the wires running to the 888LM together after disconnecting the unit to open and close the door.  PITA to manually open, close, and lock while we wait for the new unit.

I have the same issue with my 888LM. Both lights keep flashing and 3 beeps at about 1 minute interval.

My 888LM started alarming at 3 am this morning.  Going of with long loud beeps and then slowing down to a loud chirp every few seconds.  Took me a while to figure out what it was.  Finally just powered down the whole unit because there was a slight burning smell from the unit and I was worried about it catching fire even though it's a low voltage device.  Garage door is immobilized and unresponsive while beeping is going on.

I am having the same issue. Reading all these comments reminds me of the movie G-Force when all the devices had a special chip that made them wake up at the same time and do bad stuff like beeping & flashing...

I have had random red and yellow flashing lights for a while now, but it seemed to reset after a few minutes. Now the problem is increasing in frequency and length. I read somewhere (instructions maybe) that it was the battery recharging. The problem is getting bad now. And I need a fix or a replacement. I hope I can get the replacement sine it is a known problem.

From all the post concerning the exact problem it appears there may be a good class action lawsuit. If there were different problems I could understand it but they all seem to have the same issue. Any good attorneys out there that wants an open and shut case. This forum by it sell proves the defective product.

I’m having the same problem with my 888LM -- the red and yellow lights blinking. I disconnected and reconnected it; it worked for an hour or so, then started blinking again. I opened a ticket with customer support but never heard back. Can someone from Liftmaster/Chamberlain please help?

My issue is very similar.  Heard the 3 fast chirp noise every few minutes and app would tell me door is trying to close at every 3 chirp noise.  Tracked it down to the 888LM.  Orange status light would turn off and on at random times.  Door would not operate from any controllers or MyQ app.  Found this forum and took unit apart to find burned trace and leaking capacitors.  See pics.

Has anyone gotten a replacement from chamberlain?  It seems there was, at a minimum, a bad batch.  I am hesitant to buy another unless they have fixed the board or capacitor issue.

EDIT:  We had been having some intermittent issues like the light button not working and door button not working in the days leading up to the total failure.

EDIT2:  Contacted support via CHAT and they told me they would send me a replacement.  I will update this post when issue is resolved.  Good customer support so far.

EDIT3:  For anyone who reads this far,  there is a special warranty on these 888LM units until Sept. 2023.  Visit this page for details:

I just replaced my LM888 under warranty and the new panel is having similar issues. As soon as I connected power it was flashing red/yellow (no beep) and then it lost all lights. I turned the power off at the panel for 20 minutes until the high pitched noise ended (which I assume drains the battery) and still not working. My openers (built into the car), key pad, and an old panel I used temporarily while waiting for the replacement all work. Is there anything I’m missing?

I see that many of you have the "two flashing lights and three beep issue" that I did. The problem lies primarily with bad 2.7V 1 farad capacitors that this product utilizes to store and then provide power to the circuitry when needed...much like a typical battery could. On one hand...these special type (double layer) capacitors eliminate the need of periodically replacing typical batteries...and the chance for circuit damage that leaking batteries might ultimately cause. This capacitor type is considered to potentially provide up to ONE MILLION charge/discharge cycles during its service life...MANY times greater than ANY known "battery". On the other hand... when they unexpectedly fail, they are not as simple and easy to replace as a battery would be.
The root problem revolves around deficient capacitors produced by just a handful of capacitor manufacturers during a specific period of years...mid-late '90s I seem to recall. Many of these began failing in service within 2-3 years...FAR SOONER than their designed life expectancy. I have a high end tape deck that had about 25 affected capacitors that "began to die" long before THEIR time also, and were a REAL *itch to access and replace due to their locations on some "very crowded" circuit boards.

With the 888LM and similar control units, the two 2.7V 1 farad capacitors are adjacent to each other and easily accessible, being close to one edge of the circuit board (others have already posted good pictures of these capacitors and their location, earlier in this forum discussion). They are easy to access, and with a basic knowledge of soldering electronic components, they are also easy to remove and replace...but pay close attention however to the polarity. The "negative banding" on each capacitor should be facing towards the middle of the circuit board when the replacements are installed (2.7V 1F capacitors cost about $10 for two on Amazon). VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE...there are several tiny "surface mounted" components in close proximity to the circuit board holes these capacitors are soldered into. BE CAREFUL not to allow your soldering pencil to linger longer than necessary, or to inadvertently make contact with and "de-solder" these small surface mounted components. Again...replacing the defective capacitors is not at all hard, but proximity to the surface mounted components I spoke of dictates that reasonable care be taken to not create a "new problem" through disrupting these nearby components....or "bridge" circuit elements because excess solder is used and some ends up where not desired. Obviously...if your soldering skills are quite minimal, or your hand steadiness, as with a number of folks my age (60), has become a bit suspect with time, it's probably best to just buy a replacement controller.

Took me 3 days to receive the capacitors and about 15 minutes to remove the bad ones and install the replacements. Once the controller was re-installed, a few moments more of "flashing lights" as the capacitors completed their initial "charging process" and then....no more issues with flashing lights or the incessant beeping!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Garage Door Opening by Itself....

I have had the MyQ Garage installed for less than 6 hours now. I was super exited to get this product added to my smart home setup. Now, I find myself on a ladder at 1:00am uninstalling it because my garage door won't stop opening by itself.

My bedroom sits directly above my garage; so, with a chain driven LiftMaster opener, I know every time the garage door is opened because my bedroom floor shakes.

I was awakened 2 times tonight by the sound of my garage door opening. In 10 years, I've never had a problem with the opener until the night I installed this product.

Here's the weird part. After opening itself the 2nd time tonight, I unplugged it from the power outlet. A few minutes later, the door opened again! I then got the ladder back out and took it and the door sensor down and deleted the device from the app. Knock on wood...it hasn't happened again since.

Anyone else have similar issues? Why would it open again even after cutting the power to the device? This happened late at night, when none of my neighbors would have been using their openers, so I doubt it's any interference from them.

So if we are having this issue with the 888LM unit and live in Canada, what are our options? Am i forced to buy a new unit? My unit is 4 years old and it was happening once in a while and now it is happening with increasing frequency.

Have the same beeping/flashing issue with a unit manufactured 02/18. Looks like age is not a factor
