2017 Genie Door Opener Works with MyQ

After contemplating returning and finding another solution, I tried one thing with my new door opener, and it worked!  I had tried connecting 3 times and it went all the way through the 4 tries and 15 minutes and then errored out.  So I got a ladder, started the process again, and every time the garage learn lights went back to green indicating it had left learn mode, I pushed it again.  It went all the way through pass 1, all the way through pass 2, giving me plenty of time to think about how ridiculous it is that MyQ works with my 20 year old garage door opener but won't work with my 1 year old opener.  But then, on the 3rd pass, the door opened and the app said "Success!"   All is working as it should now with a door that is supposedly not supported.  Too early to know reliability yet, but it's worked all morning sending alerts and opening and closing from the app.  I love a hack.  It will be interesting to see if this becomes part of Chamberlain's instructions.

I congratulate your persistence!  Sometimes you just need a bigger hammer.;-)

The MyQ emulates a button push. Its just that plain and simple. If you have ANY garage door opener that allows a simple dry contact push button to be attached with two-wires, then the MyQ simply emulates the effect of a hardware push-button.  You may have other issues that were getting in the way, and the setup instructions may not be as clear, but by and large ANY opener witha push-button should work with enough persistence to get all the steps right in the time allotted.

Jim, I am having the same issue with my late model genie 3055.  When you say the learning mode goes to green...mine goes to red. But basically you kept learning mode going by repressing the learn button over and over again?

Yep, that's exactly what I did.  As quickly as it changed from purple to green, I pushed it again, waited til it turned green again, and pushed it again.  Just trying to force it to stay in learning mode.  The first time I went the whole 15 minutes with no success, but the second time I tried, Boom!  Door opened and the app said "Success".
