I got this message. "The door cannot be controlled because of too many failed attempts. Please operate the door locally to reset and allow unattended operation. " So what i did was delete MyQ app and re-add it. Also i've tried to unplugged everything and even deleted the app still doesn't work. When i push the inside wall control to close or open the door, the app is still saying when it close or open as normal.Never had this problem before since 5-6 months ago. Please help.

Same problem here.  "Close Error!  Too many failed attempts..."  This app used to work fine until a few weeks ago and not it always gives me the error.  I've seen other posts where CS tries to shift the blame to the garage photo sensors or the WiFi, but it's not it.  I've tried everything from reinstalling the app, power cycling the gateway, the Chamberlain MyQ device, you name it to no avail.  I can open the garage without issue, but closing is always the problem.  The car remotes work fine always, and so does the garage button.  The problem lies on the app that is malfunctioning.  The app needs to be updated ASAP to address this issue that is only frustrating everyone.  Amazon reviews also seem to be getting this feedback too.  Not good!

Lisa, thanks for reaching out. Our team is aware that some users are having this issue and we're actively working on a fix. In the meantime, following are two steps for overcoming this issue.

1. Wait until the app states door open before entering or exiting the garage
2. Enter/exit the garage in less than 4 seconds.

If you're still having trouble after following these steps, please send me another note and we'll get this figured out. Thanks, Chuck

Same problem started yesterday with one of the garage doors connected to the same hub.  Happens with closing and when the app is not connected to the same wifi as the hub.  More issue with the app connection with LTE vs wifi I would think.

This problem also started a week ago... just out of the blue stopped working and not communicating with our IPhones. Is there a software update or a for sure fix for this product?

"Close error - too many failed attempts "

I am getting the same error. The App stopped updating on Monday Jan 4, 2016. This occurred after working for at least two years. When I attempt to open the door via the app it works (does not update status but no error noted).

The app also allows me to close door (still no update but it closes)

then when I attempt to activate the door to open via the app again ... it gives the error listed above.

Once this happen no remote action using the app will occur but I can reset the error message by cycling power to the MYQL hub.

Again the status of the door will not update it still shows the last opening on Jan 4, 2016. States open 1 day.

I did remove and reload the IOS version of the app no success. It is obvious

I would delete and reinstall the app, wait for a day to see what happens. I think that was what I did and it worked for me.

Can't remember where I found this but it resolved my close error issue:
1. Use the web app
2. Do not cross the electronic eyes until the door reads as open in the web app
3. Wait a few seconds after crossing the electronic eyes to close the door with the web app

I had to use the MyQ garage door wall closer itself or the exterior garage door code input to close the garage door. After that, the MyQ app in my cell phone was functional again.

=============

That said, I think Rodrigo Flores may be on to something as MyQ app in my cell phone is slow to register and report fully.  In my case, it may be due to me manually switching on my cell phone from wireless Wi-Fi  in home to exterior LTE cell towers when leaving home.

I have the Internet Connectivity Kit which has NO battery.  I was getting the same errors all the time for past 4 months  I went and cleaned the lens on door sensors and realigned them.  They seemed a little out and dirty.  Before cleaning and aligning, when I used the web app and opened the door, I went out side and walked through the sensors and back.  Had the error on the web app when I went back in the house.  After cleaning and aligning the sensors.  I retested and did not get the error walking through the sensors.  Before doing all this,  I also noticed that Wifi would get the error but after going to LTE on iPhone and restarting app several minutes later the error was gone and I could close door.   Need reliability in this app.

I also have the Internet Connectivity Kit which has NO battery.   Same error when I attempt to close the door with the app.  "too many failed attempts "   Manual works fine.   I have had no problems for 2 years.   Looking at the history logs.  Tons of "Garage Door Opener Unknown"   Immediately followed by "Garage Door Closed"   Thus the too many attempts.   Is the garage opening and shutting continually?  Is the issue with the app or the door?

Based on the MyQ history logs it appears to be trying to open and close the garage door every 10 minutes thoughout the day and night. Thus explaining the ‘too many failed attempts’ when i try to use it from my mobile. This began when i received an app update 4 days ago. Don’t know if i can revert back to the earlier version. In the interim, i turned off the MyQ gateway to avoid risking any harm to the garage door.

I didn’t do anything and no app update. It just started working again . Possibly changes were made on the MyQ side. I am glad to have it back again.

Mine spontaneously started working again too...but only for about 48 hours and then the "close error - too many failed attempts" message reappeared. It is incredibly frustrating and disappointing.

Apps is a piece of s*#* . They need to refund our money. Everyone needs to start posting this on facebook and on every other media site to get the word out. This has gone on way to long.

Hi to any Chamberlain Tech/Manager that reads this,
Like the many others who have posted here, I am also having issues with "Close Error". I have removed all device from my account, reset the opener as per your instructions back to what I believe is Factory Settings and then added the device back to my account. As soon as the door is opened, whether from the iOS app or the web portal or even via a remote or push button on the actual opener, the status of the door shows "Close Error". Is there a permanent fix for this or has the lure of an internet controlled door been slightly misleading as no matter what I do I can not seem to get this to work.

I had identical symptoms recently. The app worked great for years and suddenly this stream of ‘failed after too many attempts’ errors. Did everything listed here with no improvement. I even swapped out the MyQ console panel. What finally fixed it was replacing the red and white cables from the MyQ console panel and the Chamberlein unit. Have not seen that error since. Bad cable was sending false signals generating the error condition.

I find it interesting that for months the tech support team says we'll get back to you with a solution and never gets back to you with the solution. But suddenly when someone in the Forum says oh I found a way to fix it then the tech support team says great glad to know it's working and moves on. Clearly this is a problem if it's been going on for months and the tech team has not provided a solution what are you waiting for?

I wish I know there was going to be problems like this when I signed the contract for installation. I have not been able to use my smartphone because of the same failures. The only difference is my started from the time MyQ was installed on my phone.

I am having the same issue.  My phone app says I have a close error from too many failed attempts on one of my two garage doors.  I tried using the wall unit to open and close the door and that did not clear the error.  Any suggestions?

I fixed mine by relocating the sensor. My guess (and it is a guess) is that there was some errant RF interference that was preventing a proper close signal from the sensor to the base. Perhaps from the motor itself, or some coiled power wiring, or most important, from the opener light if it is an LED (never have an LED bulb in the opener, they put out a lot of RF) or a CFL (which I have) that also puts out an RF spike that takes a while to recede. The result is that the sensor does not tell the door that it is closed. I cleared this when it was happening to me (before I fixed the problem by moving the sensor) by going to the sensor and poking the connect button. When I did that the app straightened out and said the door was closed. So in my case I believe that the closed signal was being interfered with, and retrying to close a closed door just will poop out on tries.

At first i got notifications of close.. open... close... open.. and so on for hours on end while i was at work. I thought the sensor may have just losing battery or something so i ignored it until my neighbor texted me telling me my garage was open. I still thought maybe if i just change the sensor battery it will be fine since something similar happened in the past and i fixed it by changing the sensor battery. But no, the garage was literally opening and closing itself for hours. The app eventually gave me an error and told me to operate the garage locally to reset it, but after operating it locally many many times, the error still did not go away, and i could not operate the garage with the app. I even tried resetting everything, pressing the purple button on the opener and reprogramming it for the app, still had the same error telling me to open the garage locally, and still did not work. This is definitely a breaking issue, i am no longer able to use the app to operate my garage.

I have the same error too. Worked fine for a few months and then now this. We had to have someone go to our house while out of town just to see if the door was up or down. This is ridiculous that this device has all these issue and seem to be doing nothing about it. I want my money back as I don’t trust this thing anymore.

I had the same issue after one year and also bought replacements with no success. It was finally fixed by having my garage door tech run a new cable to the wall controller from the Chamberlain engine. It was a bad connection creating the false requests.

To my surprise, I have been having problems with this same error message. I can open the garage door with the app but when I attempt to close it on many occasions, it gives the same error msg. It has gotten to the point where it began to cause my garage door to malfunction where it would not close at all. What I find appalling is, based on the reviews and the length of time that has elapsed; I am seeing a lot of responses from this company saying they are looking into it but I really dont see any real effort or attempt to do anything, yet I have to glean on the trial and effort of others to come up with some sort of solution. Why aren't you doing anything about it? This should have been resolved before I even bought this!!!

Hi, I had the same problem as soon as the opener was installed. After working with support personnel I was surprised to find that the light had to be installed to avoid this as an issue. As soon as I installed the light, the problem disappeared. You would think that the installer would have known this, but he did not. He left it up to me to install the light "wherever I wanted it". This made sense to me at that time but it quickly led to the close error. With the light installed I have absolutely no issues with opening and closing with the app.

I am responding to your comment as I could find nothing in the instructions or online which describes this as an issue.
